By almost 2-to-1 Americans think arming more people with concealed carry guns will help prevent terrorism http://crimeresearch.org/2016/06/ne...h-concealed-carry-permits-will-make-us-safer/ But the left tells us people want less ability to defend themselves....just ask them. Does anyone really think a disarmed law abiding public is going to stop terror?
To be fair, it says to stop things such as mass shootings, not necessarily terrorism in toto. Other things like the Oklahoma City bombing and 9/11 one would have, in my opinion, a much more difficult time justifying mass arming in order to prevent.
The key phrase was 'help'. Unlike the left we do not suggest any measure will stop violent crime or terrorism. What the public believes is that it just might reduce the rate of such events. Look at the history. Almost every mass shooting, terror or simply crazy, has been in one of our fine 'gun free zones'. The public has figured out that the crazies ignore the idea and the rest of us are helpless there.
The likelihood your firearm will injure you, take your life or the life of a loved one is far, far greater than you actually using it to save your life/defend yourself. A better idea would be to encourage people to take a concealed weapon gun safety course, then give them a discount on a fire arm purchase. Flooding more guns into the public will result in a net loss of life. Proper training and safety will decrease this loss, make people feel safer and possibly thwart terrorist attacks.
Guns have been used in defense up to 2 million times per year while accidents only happen about 19,000 times per year at most and only 600 of those are fatal.
You are much more likely to shoot yourself or an innocent person than someone who is trying to harm you. "In 2012, across the nation there were only 259 justifiable homicides1 involving a private citizen using a firearm reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigations Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR)"
And there's your flaw. It doesn't have to be a justifiable homocide to be considered a defensive use of a gun. It doesn't even have to be that you fired a shot. It could a simple matter of saying "I got a gun" when you actually do.
I tried using that statement against some very far left people and they didnt have an answer, just laughed and said "man you are dumb" Why is that such a tactic with more left than right? I cant stand Rachael Maddow because she cant say one sentence without the little liberal smile. Makes it really hard to debate them in person
Based on .... what? According to the rabidly anti-gun Violent Policy Center, firearms are used for self-defense 183 times per day -- how often does a gun owner injure themselves or take their own life, or that of a loved one? http://www.vpc.org/studies/justifiable15.pdf "net loss" of life? Unquestionably.
What matters is that a well armed populace will be a deterrent to violent crime. Less of those acts will happen and yes there will be more accidents but I would rather my girlfriend shoot herself in the foot then be raped.
Maybe becuase deep down they know they're wrong. And I couldn't agree with you more about "debating" them in person.
