Can America be trusted as a reliable ally?

If I say no, does that mean we can stop propping up half the worlds militaries while fighting the other half and just worry instead about our own ****?

    Cuz that sounds worth it.

And it sounds really really worthwhile to US not to have to run and help you all the time.

Tell me - since the end of WWII how often has America come to Australia’s aid in war and how often has Australia helped YOU?

    Korea
    Vietnam
    Gulf wars
    Iraqi War
    Afghanistan

Actually we are getting a little sick and tired of being dragged into these things

I doubt they know what a paragraph is. They don’t read, just like their obese orange dotard.

Or maybe just maybe, other countries can defend themselves without big mommy America to do it for them.[/QUOTE]

Lol...Trump and his supporters know nothing about geopolitics.
Get a clue. We became the world’s policeman because it benefited us. It’s not altruism, it’s done for our national security.
Why do you think that putin’s fondest wish is for the US to destroy NATO from within?

It has been said here before.....Putin is laughing his head off at what Trump is delivering to him, and he has to do absolutely nothing apart from sitting back and eating popcorn.

Its funny how all the bitching about Americas imperialism stopped and reversed the instant we considered no longer funding the defense of the worlds socialisms...

...but not 'ha ha' funny. The other kind.

You know who doesn't care about your views?

Trump supporters. And people who don't necessarily support Trump but will vote for him just to piss you off.

The fact that people would do that is hilarious to me.

Probably not, but speaking as a Brit I reckon that all our other allies are worse. So we should continue to hang onto Uncle Sam's coat tails whether her wants us or not.

My understanding is that S. Korea is the plastic surgery country of the world. I read once that a movie director had problems finding Koreans that looked like...koreans.. while making a historical movie up there....

Yes and no. We can be trusted during a given administration. When that changes then all bets are off. In the old days we used to have congress make laws. Those laws are hard to eliminate. Lately, with the great political divide, we make laws easy to make by having the president launch an executive order. Those laws are easy to eliminate and they are often eliminated. In the long run I wouldn't trust the US federal government as an ally.

Defending the world from aggressive authoritarian regimes has a cost. It’s a good thing it wasn’t left for Australia to win WW II or the Cold War.

The U.S. protects half the world from aggressive authoritarian regimes. And all we hear is bitching and moaning.

We should just walk away. Let China take South Korea. I don’t care.

I just think it's the most pragmatic option.

If they won't pay to protect themselves than the need to pay us to protect them.

You're dreaming. The US is in those places for its own benefit, not for the benefit of the 'host.' No-one is stopping the US from pissing off out of those places. Jayzuz, even here, it is the US asking us to allow them to have a base in the Northern Territory. I am sure we will go for it because it brings financial benefits.

Once again, GIs will be over here, over paid and over sexed. (That's from WW2....Google 'Battle of Brisbane.') :)

And it's a good thing for me too, because that's how Grandma and Grandpa met in the first place.

Granted, I'm no war mongerer, but I must admit that I would not exist if my grandmother and grandfather never met.
