It feels like every couple of days I'm seeing an article, a thread, or a social media post criticizing some politician for getting vaccinated early on before the vaccine is readily available to the general public. I can understand why people have some concerns about these politicians getting their vaccines while the supply is still limited, but in my opinion these criticisms are misguided. I actually believe politicians being the first in line to get vaccinated is a good thing, here's why 1. Politicians need to lead by example. It is their job as public representatives to lead the way and encourage people to get vaccinated, and what better way to do that than to show their trust in the medical experts, and be one of the first in line to get vaccinated 2. When someone gets vaccinated, they are not just protecting themselves, but the people around them. Political leaders are quite susceptible to catching the virus, their having to travel regularly and meet with people on a day in day out basis. Which means they are also susceptible to spreading the virus to other people and getting them sick. While we should try to prioritize giving the vaccine to people who are more vulnerable, it is not a waste of a vaccine to give it to a person who is less at risk, because they can still spread it to other people who are at greater risk 3. It is a drop in the bucket to the overall supply of vaccines. Yes for each politician who gets the vaccine there is one fewer for the general public. However this isn't significant enough to have any kind of serious consequences on the overall supply of vaccines available. I would also argue for the reasons listed above that them getting vaccinated earlier is saving lives rather than costing lives, which in itself is enough reason for me to give it my full support Thoughts?
If the vaccine is going to kill us or make us sterile, then I want the politicians to be first in line to test it for us.
You are absolutely right. Politicians need to lead by example and get vaccinated. But they have to get vaccinated in such a way that encourages people to get vaccinated. That might be the part that’s upseting people.
Well with the problems starting to show up from their rushed through approval I am glad politicians are getting it first. Everyone of them who suffers paralysis deserves it. In a year when they yank the vaccine die to safety concerns it hopefully teaches them a lesson.
You have expressed concerns about the vaccine being rolled out too soon thereby causing risk to its recipients. Assuming that's true, what do you think would happen if a large percentage of politicians die or are seriously maimed by the vaccine? I'm trying to understand how you criticize the timing of the rollout while championing its release for politicians.
Im all for them being first in line because if there really is something wrong with it, we won’t have difficulty getting enough votes to ban it. Considering the hyper partisanship that we witnessed in the past 4 years, getting a majority to agree on something is a struggle. If they all go first, regardless of their political party, building consensus will be easier.
The three previous presidents could lead by example by going to prison for life for crimes against humanity. Every one of them was a sociopathic monster.
I agree with everything you said, and will add that it sets a good example, and demonstrates their confidence in the safety of the vaccine.
I think workers all over the US and world are going to be threatened with losing their jobs if they don't take the vaccine. If that's the case, it's only fair that politicians and heads of corporations take it first. Has Bill Gates taken it yet? I've had the disease and tested positive for the antibodies 2 weeks ago. I worked all day last week with a guy who later that day tested positive for covid. So far, so good without the vaccine.
Three things to which (left) politicians are entitled that the rest of us are not: 1. vaccines. 2. haicuts when they have ordered all the hair salons closed. 3. nice dinners at Michelin-starred restaurants when they have ordered all the restaurants closed.
If the vaccine is dangerous, the politicians should go first. If the vaccine is perfectly safe, the politicians should go last. That should settle the question for one and all. You're welcome.
"Can we stop criticizing politicians ... " It doesn't matter how you end this sentence, as long as we're in the US the answer is NEVER!
