He told me that I went to Police academy and I had gone through several different weapons training courses including CHL back before constitutional carry was a thing

A club heavy enough to crack a skull? True. That would justify it. A stick / fishing pole? No. I was referring to 'use of reasonable force'. There are fights where you cannot use deadly force no matter how much you wanted to. If you are a 250lb guy being attacked by a deranged 110lb unarmed woman, you can't shoot her down, except maybe in Texas. In other States you can do it only to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another.

Australia is 11 times larger in land mass than Texas and has 3 million less people than Texas. Makes a difference in rights and freedom comparing U.S.A. and Australia. And we have lots of liberals willing to give up freedoms for socialism.

At best a freedom index is totally subjective opinion -- that is unless you can produce an index supported by very specific and very granular metrics based on normalized data.

That’s not true, I’ve never heard of any challenge to the right to defend your home in America. There are many misguided proposals to limit what you can use for home defense. But not the right to defend yourself or your home.

So in all of that, what is your point when I was speaking of the constitution of the United States and protecting the citizens from the government? How did Australia or this freedom index figure into any of that? I see zero correlation.

 

Thank you for relating what I discovered the hard way.

After working with emotionally disturbed juveniles from the Juvenile Justice system I started teaching by working as a substitute teacher attempting to teach "Special Ed." students in a "spirited" inner-city High School.

I had better luck in keeping order than most full time teachers because of previous experience working on an Emergency Psychiatric Unit and working with severely disturbed juvenile offenders.

Because a "good day" attempting to teach Special Ed. was keeping the students from climbing out the windows, I asked the school principal if I was really expected to teach anything. In a refreshingly honest confession, he told me that the only reason that I was in that room was to prevent a lawsuit.

It was only after I went on to become a full time teacher that I discovered that our schools were actually not so subtle centers of leftist indoctrination that clashed starkly with the stated goal of imparting of knowledge and critical thinking skills.
Because I continued to urge students to look at what they were being told with a critical eye, my teaching career was blissfully brief.
