Okay I know this is not a classic "abortion" case as the woman involved was in a depressive state and tried to commit suicide. But the question remains - should she have been incarcerated awaiting trial for murder or given psychiatric assistance?

The two shouldn't be mutually exclusive.

Use the same standards you use in other homicide cases to determine if she had intent, and proceed as you would with any other homicide case.

It doesn't take a huge brain to understand the fact that this poor, desperate woman is in desperate need of psychiatric care.

Anybody who thinks otherwise needs psychiatric care even more urgently than this poor woman does.

I had no illusions that a certain subset of people would be more focused on "punishing" the woman than on actually treating the issue

Yet nobody has posted any such thing. Huh. Delusion is a funny thing.

If she was depressed enough to try and commit suicide, then she needs help, not prison.

I am sure the lifers here would have preferred that she be tied to the bed and made to give birth, but that didn't happen. Let her go - if she is to be punished at all she should be made to serve whatever sentence handed down to her in hospital.

More baseless bullshiit from you? You should really try to develop an actual argument, not just "lifers are the great boogie man".

Give it time, give it time...................

There certainly is no support for the woman being shown in terms of "we need to get her some mental health assistance"

And in this case the trigger was the baby's father basically abandoning her - should he also be charged??

Very sad, we have the same problem here in Australia. Prisons are de facto mental institutions.

 I see, so you are baiting somone to say what you want them to say so you can try to further demonize ALL opposition to the pro abortion viewpoint. Gotcha!

    Pathetic!

Well as I see it, you are a hypocrite. You started this thread with the expectation that your opposition would react a certain way, that hasn't actually happened, so you can continue to demonize them as people instead of merely posting support for your side or the argument.

Actually I would be more than happy to discuss the ramifications of this - that has not happened instead it has degenerated, into a partisan snipe feast, which unfortunately typifies this board and is the main reason why I have reduced my interaction to a couple of topics and a few threads.

Now have you anything of substance to debate on this thread or are you going to continue to attack me personally?

Well one cannot help but see the extreme hypocricy in this post, given your dubious intent from the beginning of the thread.
