You make it look very racial, but in fact - it's not. Just turn it the other way round. Do you really think the story would be any different if it was small but proud russian folk opressed by evil Chechen Empire? Do you really think that "man-dominated narrative" is specific for chechens? Each and every traditional culture in the world since neolithic revolution was man-dominated. And every primitive tribe is xenophobic and sees others as scum (or, as you put it, sees it's own women as "brave virgins" and those of neighboring tribe - as a meat for raping). So, it has nothing to do with the difference between russian and chechen national culture. But it has everything to do with the difference between civilized country of the XXI century and early-medieval tribal society. Unlike Chechnya, todays Russia (I mean, not RF as a whole, but what we call "European Russia") has at least a chance to become that civilized state. But raising hysteria about some monument to XIXth century events doesn't help a bit. It's like an adult, who's heard a swear word from a child, but instead of putting him to order starts cursing back. I want my country to behave adult in geopolitics, not a silly hyperexcited teenager, do you know what I mean?

I was sure it would be pretty obvious that "small Russian nation" and "Great Chechen Empire" were just a metaphor I used to show you the flaws in your logic.
As to your materials, they just emphasize the current barbarity of Chechen Republic's ruling elite, which doesn't change my point: it's not about national culture. Those principals of teip's organization, for example, could be applied to most primitive communities. And the post on Chechen-Armenian "frienship" shows even more clearly: two nations are neighbours and share their common history, but one struggles to move into 21st century, while another doesn't give a damn about progress. So I stick to what I've said before: barbarian is not a nation, it is a lack of civilization. And I don't want Russia to play on one field with barbarians.

But you're trying once again to equal nation to its leader. So I've got a question: is every Russian synonimous to Putin? Is every US citizen synonimous to Obama? I'd think not. Then you shouldn't equal Chechen people with it's unworthy president. After all, some guys are still in the forests and mountains fighting against his regime right now.

As for the empires bieng non-tribal - yes and no. An empire is by definition an over-tribal system. Which doesn't at all abolish a clansman psychology, just alters it a bit or takes it to a new level. Where before was a tribe of hundreds, now is a nation of thousands or a race of millions. Does it really change anything but numbers? No. It's still a caveman's consciousness, still xenophobia, still "us" against "them".

The same with this monument. Instead of respect for a worthy foe - just mutual hatred and disghust. It gets us nowhere. Does it really matters in that case if there were such episode in history or no? The dead don't care, monument are not built for them. Monuments are for the living, to take lessons, to be a role-model. I'd surely prefer for young chechen girls and boys to take a lesson of human dignity from the story of 49 brave virgins, whether it's historycally accurate or not, rather then from banditry and bestiality they see around them every day (including banditry and bestiality of Ramzan Kadyrov himself).
