People love to debate about the origin of morality. Why are we moral? What is it about us human beings that gives us a sense of right and wrong? Seems to be a combination of factors really, such as socialization, personality, and geographical location. But scientists have also discovered something else. How moral people act can be manipulated by a molecule known as oxytocin. Inserting this chemical into people actually causes them to act MORE ethically. Very interesting finding. The implications are fuzzy though. What if someone were to inject another person with a drug that reduced the amount of oxytocin in their brain? Or, what if someone already had a low level to begin with, and then did something horrible, such as raping a woman? It's unclear as to what a thoughtful societal response would consist of. What is your opinion about this finding? I don't want people, who are going to just deny any scientific finding they don't like, to respond, because you will be wasting my time. I won't respond back to you at all. But for any thoughtful theists, atheists, or agnostics, what do you think about the fact that human behavior can be manipulated to make people act more ethically?
Why is this in the religion forum for starters? We already make people act more "ethically" by laws, etc.
But whose morals are used to decide whether they can more moral or less? There could be people who don't agree to the moral code being used....They would say that it causes them to act less moral and not more.
I forgot to cite the link! My apologies, http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/27/opinion/zak-moral-molecule/index.html
People who believe this don't understand what morality is. At its absolute best, it's worthess without the "scientists'" operating definition of the underlined.
Just because somethong is illegal does not make it wrong.......smoking pot for example is not morally wrong.... Morals dictate laws...not the other way around..
Where are these alleged findings that you speak about. Are those findings in any way influenced by the pharmaceutical industry in their quest for more and more money? Are those statistics influenced in any way by political leaders so the drug can be legally used in their quest for more control over an already ignorant, docile, and deluded population?
