Big tough manly man thinks his thoughts are his own when in reality, his life is about living out other's dreams hopes and aspirations.

Its not my fault your culture put you in a position to get duped into spawning useless feeders, brother.

Wow, very cynical and hostile thread. I don't particularly want children, certainly not at present, I recently had a close mate that serves in the army get married (on my bloody birthday...selfish) and had himself a kid a month later. Stupid, stupid decision, considering he'd only known his "wife" eight months prior to the pregnancy, and I'm willing to say with perfect certainty that he'll regret no pulling out in around 6 months time, and in another three years even more-so when they inevitably break up. I haven't so much a problem with western fertility rates as those in countries in the "developing world" (when they are supposed to develop, exactly?) Really, that's where the problem lies, we have numerous charities calling desperately for our aid and financial assistance for a dire food shortage, in a world where malnutrition is one of, if not the biggest cause of death. But oh no, they keep F****** away at the expense of the western tax dollar and our bleeding hearts, and when they fail to receive help, their children die an agonizing death- simply because they couldn't keep it in their pants.

Now, as to children born in the developed world, I would disagree with the OP, calling it pathetic and foolish to have children in the modern age- in a world where contraceptive devices are far spread, there really isn't an excuse for accidental pregnancy (an excuse one certain idiot serving in the army doesn't have), and it has become more of a case of choice, and personal lifestyle preference. I won't condemn you for having children, provided you have a stable environment to rare them in, and a sufficient income. I, however, cannot stand it when you do not meet those two prerequisites.
You have become perhaps the biggest burden the nation could ever suffer, you have produced a citizen, that will in all likelihood, not be educated, not be a financial contributor, and thus create a economic deficit simply by their existence, not provide a healthy social structure for the future, and will perhaps be inclined to request welfare, and perhaps widen the demographic comprised of criminals in future; that being a future that I'll probably be spending in a bamboo mansion in Vietnam, sipping mojito's all day in. But without a civilized population and therefore foundation for humanity, where can it all go? It's a tricky subject, personally. (And perhaps I'm influenced by the personal opinion that all children from infancy to the age of 18, have generally grown to be ignorant, self-indulgent, over-privileged and lackadaisical little bastards, who knows?).

Having children in a society without discipline is certainly pointless.

The problem with the modern world and parenting- is that if you could sum up the popular ideology of liberalism in a line it is to say "You don't have a right to impose your will upon others". And when you can't even discipline your own kids it is not even mildly surprising that they are going to be worse off each generation.

As cynical as it sounds, punishment and discipline are more or less synonymous. How can you have discipline if there is nothing that happens to those who break it. There is no doubt that we should not look forward to disciplining children but ultimately they will be better off for it.

Meanwhile modernism further ruins the situation by promoting a certain idea that the cane or whatever will mentally damage children if you hit them. Yet for generations our ancestors would have been punished by the cane as children, and they were not anymore insane than people today. Or the other way to look at it- the absence of the cane certainly has not made people more civil/sane.

The "discipline" of today is just a joke. When I was a child- doesn't seem that long ago- the "punishment" was as simple as sitting in an orange chair in the corner of the room, or if in the playground, sitting in a square with a yellow line painted around it for 15 minutes. As the years passed it was just more of the same- sit in for one hour after school in a room, write a sentence "I will not do (whatever you did wrong)" a few hundred times. It's laughable and many got away with things that they shouldn't have and wouldn't have just one generation before.

The biggest joke is "suspension". Just a holiday, really. It is absurdity of near insane proportions. You can't seriously have kids in this and expect them to turn out fine. The schools are full of drugs and alcohol and were back when I went to them. It's much worse now.
