I can't explain it. I don't like this song and don't like Mariah, but I like this when I hear it [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5nSnFXsw7Q"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5nSnFXsw7Q[/ame]

This is probably going to sound an odd thing to do if you're used to hearing this version in the background of shops at Christmas (where it is all too often played, at low volume, through abysmal speaker systems), but seriously crank it up, sit back and listen to the guitar work! I hate Christmas music, but I like most Christmas Carols - Gruber's Stille Nacht is my fave. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPlxBow16SA"]Pavarotti Domingo Carreras - Silent Night - YouTube[/ame]
How about a Welsh one, then - first actually written down (although it's certainly an older tune than that) by a Welsh harpist in the 18th century. The Welsh words are actually about New Year's Eve, but the English version is obviously about Christmas - you'll know the tune, I'm sure! First a bit of background. Gareth Malone is a wandering choirmaster who makes TV shows about the power of music and choirs in particular. He's done a miniseries about lonely service wives (don't go there!) sat on bases around the country waiting for their men to come home. He set up a choir to help them give each other support, and this is the result. None of them were choristers before, and this is their Christmas single. http://www.youtube.com/user/militarywiveschoir?v=0hR6O7VxKaQ&feature=pyv&ad=9835277362&kw=christmas%20songs

This is great: http://ahabit.com/music I love the old oned like Away in a Manger. They are so, so beautiful --and check out amazing grace, the voice is spectacular --but that's more generic religious, rather than Christmassy.
