So I’m curious on what our members of the climate activist community has done to help reduce the carbon footprint on a personal level? How do you avoid products that come from fossil fuels? I mean if you buy anything made in China or even things made from Chinese raw materials you are already guilty of supporting the fossil fuel industry. But let’s just get down to it. Have you done anything on personal level to avoid fossil fuel products and how much?

    Personally?

I drive an lpg (liquid petroleum gas vehicle).

I carbon-offset some of my plane flights. Not quite the same I know.

I have solar panels on house.

I have chosen 'clean energy' options for home electricity. Though I confess not currently.

We switched to LED bulbs in the house. We use no air conditioning in our home and we only travel locally and limit that travel. We sold our greenhouses and moved the plants inside a closed shed. This has reduced energy use significantly. We no longer till the ground for crops....and that has increased soil productivity and organic matter in the soil.

And before you ask....in our climate a shed seldom gets below freezing and LED bulbs provide the light. A wooden shed holds heat at night. We can also easily control day length for timing flower production on plants....and it keeps them damn fire ants out of my flower pots!!!!

I think stuff like this is doable and even economical to an extent. Doesn’t seem like your goal is to quit using fossil fuels but more of a mixed approach and in moderation. I can’t find anything wrong with that.

Not for the same reasoning as yours but I think this would just be a fun project all the way around. Are you able to grow things in the winter?

All takes is one good volcano eruption or Russian invasion to shut up most climate socialists. Do you realize our elite European brethren are now burning firewood to cook on and heat their houses?

I’m apposed to those who think we need to ban internal combustion motors and crazy stuff like that. But so far I haven’t seen an extreme reply. So far it’s more or less economical purposes rather than banning oil, gas, and coal.

So I wonder why people support those calls when so far I don’t see people doing it at a personal level.

I suppose because the change over is slow. Will take decades and infrastructure change and build up

It will never happen (if you’re suggesting to completely go away from fossil), not even over time. I believe it would take a one world dictator to do so. Other countries will not adhere without force. It will likely be the reasoning for WWIII which will lead to the kill off the climate alarmists are worried about anyway.

Where ever fossil energy is utilized they will be the leading area of industry and manufacturing. Making cheaper products that will drive economic demand for that area thus creating more emissions.

infrastructure changes are a positive just for population growth anyway. But let’s say we went “green”. Yet all the products to do so came from China. Let’s say you go to Walmart and buy a broom, cloths, laundry machine, iPhone, TV, whatever it may be. What do you think the odds are that your purchase is fueling the use of oil, gas, or coal and maybe even combinations of all 3? The odds are pretty dang good.

Just out of curiosity…. Most light bulbs (LED included) are made in China. Does their emissions concern you?

Wrong. Certainly not in yours or my lifetime.
But it will have to switch to renewables sometime in history.
Some day in the distant future, fossil fuels will be more costly as they deplete.

I have no reason to grow indoors during the summer. I have also found that warming the root zone uses less energy than heating the air. Just keep the air temperature above freezing. Plants must be adjusted to sunlight gradually in the spring.

I also started about 4,000 or 5,000 creeping phlox plants because I hate mowing the grass. My pasture land is kept by my goats but I have a large and hilly lawn. Spring will tell if what I planted works like I want it to. I stuck the cuttings in cell packs and made a lot of clones. I rooted cuttings all spring and summer in 72 count cell packs and set them out as plugs.

They are only more expensive because of our own sanctions and regulations.

Well it's like this....I am a retired person on a fixed income. I have only so much money. I have to save all year just to pay my land taxes.

Property taxes are a joke. You never really own your land. Out of all taxes I hate that the most

And that’s why the founders put the purse in the branch of government closest to the people.
