Brazil is part of the Paris Accord, yet Brazil's deforestation climbs 67% through July, [2019]. Brazil signed the Paris Agreement 3 years ago and yet they increased their deforestation by 2/3rds. Has the UN decided to sanction Brazil for violating the agreement?

My point was that great ideas can come from anyone, anywhere, anytime. Judging VOC as a low-life because she was a bartender, is both inappropriate & inaccurate. VOC is actually one of the most active, energetic, dedicated public servants in the House at this time. I'd love to have her as my representative where I live--or someone like her.

Trump upset the applecart thus you do not like the man. Now you want another cart over turner to represent you? That makes no sense to me.

The Earth itself has a number of local, regional & global natural systems at work constantly at all times. Many of these systems are extremely sensitive to small changes, temperature being one of them. Most people are unaware of how intricate, complex & sensitive our planet is to small changes. Geographers are generally better informed & more acutely aware of these systems & how they work. Geographers were the first scientists to warn us of the possible effects of global warming. Climatologists are a specialty area of Geography, and they are very aware of how little changes can create large impacts, often in locations far from where the initial change occurred. The Earth is a very special planet--one that supports a wide variety of life forms. No other planet in our Solar System has been found to do that. Even if they do, it is at a much lower level than Earth does. Every form of living thing on Earth is dependent on our planet to provide an environment where our individual lives can be sustained. If we alter that balance too much, & cause a failure in Earth's intricate systems, it can mean the end of life for ourselves & many other species. It has happened before, but never caused by Man. We don't want it to happen again, & especially we don't want to be the cause. But we're hovering over the abyss, as the agent of cause that could result in massive species extinctions, due in totality to our own ignorance &/or refusal to see & deal with the truth.

    1. The current warming trend is showing up in both the atmosphere & the ocean waters. We don't hear much about it, but there are studies that have identified increasing water temperatures threatening many familiar species of sea life with extinction. Coupled with the gigantic masses of human waste materials dumped constantly into the oceans by us, that sea animals often get trapped in or trapped by & killed, we humans are managing to eliminate species every year. I really want us to do better.
    2. Every article I've read on the antarctic this year completely disagrees with your post.

Let me explain more about my own views.

I had been a member of Bay East Board of Realtors from 1971 to about 1980. I had not ran for elective office nor did I believe I could sell more homes by working for any committee. The great former president John Walasek spent time persuading me to join committees and he named the more important as my cup of tea. (John died when i was a director)

After a few years working on Committees including as a Chair, My venture turned me to campaigning to be elected a director of the board. Also the president of the board installed me as a director of California Association of Realtors, a huge group of professional Realtors. I ended up winning my election to our own board of directors.

You can't run to be a state director since they only accept presidents appointments.

During my time on Budget and Finance, after schooling and experience i got very good doing that job.

I also got very protective of our members. My goal was to serve them very well and very diligently.

What did it get for me? Well about 40 percent of my fellow directors fully backed me. We had an establishment also. I bucked them in favor of our members. i was shocked to learn 60 percent of the directors only cared about themselves.

I was the board equivalent of AOC.

I frankly met the resistance head on but it resulted in a female State director who had worked with me both as a board director and state director who had it in for me. She blocked me from one more 3 year appointment to the State group. A man who later became the president of the state association wanted me to serve on the budget committee for the state. She kept me from helping him. He later ran the national association of Realtors so he was my ally.

So she has big mouth. And you admire that in her. I was similar to her in that in my case, it was not to collect her pay, but to serve my members. I caught hell for protecting them. She in my view needs to understand her job and earn her pay.

About my mentors, John Walasek and Frank Straface, both now dead.

    1. Every scientific dept of government where environmental research has been ongoing before Trump, is now forbidden to continue that research if it involves global warming, under threat of loss of funding or loss of job itself. Here is a list of governmental agencies affected: https://www.globalchange.gov/agencies. The military of the U.S. has also issued warnings on the effects of global warming on national defense issues. They are considerable, & the military is concerned, but Trump & his administration won't discuss those issues or offer viable solutions.
    2. Obama had a good start with increasing green energy sources in the U.S. & eliminating the use of fossil fuels on a timely basis. Trump killed those programs because he didn't like Obama & has a sick fixation on killing everything Obama did as President, regardless of its value to America or Americans.

    1. I liked Nelson Rockefeller, but no Republican since R. Reagan. I disagreed with Reagan politically, but liked him as a person. I feel the same with George H. W. Bush, but feel Republicans became consistently more extreme in their conservatism after Reagan, which made them increasingly unattractive to me.
    2. I think America would benefit by having candidates & representatives from a wider variety of backgrounds than our current situation where most of them are attorneys. Not all Americans are lawyers, so I feel having a Congress of mostly lawyers doesn't really represent the wide variety of people living in the U.S. very accurately. I don't care what job AOC held before becoming a Congresswoman. She's energetic, enthusiastic, dedicated to her constituents, & a pretty remarkable lady. She has a BS degree in Economics, with a minor in Political Science. She's smart. I like her. I wish my Congressman was more like her.

Trump turned the apple cart over in the direction of extreme right. AOC would turn it over toward the medium left, which I find much more comfortable. I don't like the "It's all about me" philosophy of the extreme conservative right. I believe a more leftist view will help reunite a widely diverse America. Trump & his white supremacists are dividing us. I want us united again.

AOC is medium left ?? You realize that the Green New Deal has nothing to do with global warming but is an attempt to completely change the US into a socialist welfare state don't you.

A major problem for this country are accusations like those you make.

I know I am central yet appreciate Trump for his actions over the words of Democrats.

Thank you for sharing. Your story sounds a lot like my own, & many others I'm familiar with. We all have stories of being treated like you were. It seems to be a part of living on this planet as a human being. The challenge is to not become so resentful that it blinds us to the positives always present in our lives--even at the same time these negatives are assaulting us. It sounds like you've had some notable successes in your life. Try focusing on those rather than all the bad things that happened. The successes are what's important, not all the crap & crappy people you had to deal with achieving those successes. :)

Good ideas can & do come from a wide variety of sources--including socialist ones. I don't care where a good idea originates. If it helps more Americans (or humans anywhere) to have a better life, then I support it.

    1. Precisely which ones are you referring to?
    2. Considering that Trump lies almost every time he opens his mouth, I have difficulty understanding how or why anyone capable of thought would allow themselves to trust anything Trump says. Perhaps you could help me with that?

Socialism has killed ~ 60,000,000 people in the last century. Pales comparison with abortion though - 1,000,000 human lives terminated every year in the US by itself.

Our founding fathers were "very radical" for their time. Sometimes radical is the best answer, though I wouldn't support it forever. Right now, our country needs some radical overhauls in several areas. I like AOC's ideas quite a lot. They are far superior to those from the extremist far right conservatives under Trump, who want to return us to the perfect past where whites control everything & skin color is a measure of human values. I'll take VOC over Trump any day.

If it walks like a duck & quacks like a duck, then it's a duck. Watch Morning Joe for 8/6/19, & see the series of videos of Trump making public speeches with highly racist tones. Trump is a racist. . .period. Now, as time passes & Republicans continue supporting him, I feel ever more strongly, they are racist too. Unless some Republicans come out of the closet & denounce the racism & Trump for it, then they deserve to be regarded as racist themselves & denied re-election in 2020. This country is a multi-cultural, multi-racial, multi-religious, highly diverse society, with absolutely no room for white supremacy or white supremacists.

You have a very rigid world view if you believe what your post says. Communism--NOT SOCIALISM--killed millions. Communism is a bad egg, but socialism is not. If you're going to blame someone for such morbid behaviors, at least take the time to blame the ones actually responsible. Learn to be accurate.
