While we are having to speculate to some degree, the probability meter keeps bumping the max peg here.
We are seeing situations where an "incident" is created by distorting a reality, then is supported by fake news, biased opinions, contrived and promoted outrage....

In other words- manipulating the people, deceiving the people- by controlling the information; what they think they know.
We can only make good decisions if we have good information. Truth. Good or bad, it is what it is, and if you can't make sound decisions without it.
Manipulating "truth" is the stuff of the worst dictators around the world, and the most evil leaders. It's the tool that steals the power from the people, and makes them sheep.

Perhaps the greatest offense any political entity or official can commit is to intentionally deceive the people it is sworn to serve.
If that is tolerated, it becomes an addiction for the politicians and a plague on the people. It destroys truth, destroys trust, and it destroys the barriers of restraint that keeps a society civil and orderly.
The proof that it's here and happening is in your news everyday, though it may be muted or softened, it is visible. We have got to do better.

There are existing standards of ethics that apply to all politicians right now, that prohibit that deception. They are not enforced in our Congress- thus, they are cosmetics without power.
