That wouldn’t even supply us with doctors, teachers, scientists, Engineers, and other critical professions.

Tech. Institutes. Like I posted... for all but the doctors... although, some streamlining could be done in healthcare providers..

Or did my "90%" figure get you stuck?

Your not getting an Engineer from tech school. But thanks for the humor.

But your idea would certainly end the American Dream.

Specialized courses, in specialized trades and skills.

A good portion of the medical profession could be in that.

    Different issue.

Let me ask you this. How many CEO’s, CFO’s or other top level industry leaders you reckon don’t have an MBA?

You are missing the point, and tenure is at the heart.

Too much emphasis is placed on universtiy/college degrees, DUE (IMO) to tenured professors.

The system must change, in order for costs to drop, and the quality of Education to improve.

How many of those MBA's are essentially bought or the result of bullshit like the Varsity Blues pay off scandals you figure?

Im sure there are a number of those whose parents did buy them paper. Like Fred Trump did for his boy. But for one of them there are at least 100 like me who worked their ass off for their MBA.

The sad state of education is not limited to secondary but post secondary as well. Colleges and universities have become highly over priced diploma mills. It's garbage in garbage out, we are feeding these businesses and let's face it, that is what they are, children who are woefully unprepared. As long as mummy and daddy are willing to cough up a quarter million these illiterates will graduate. My grandson was telling me about some of his electives, he gets credits for riding a bicycle to his classes. He gets credits for playing a round of golf and there are some that are worse than that. I've been helping him by buying texts for him each semester. The first time I did this I copied the info I needed from course syllabuses and went shopping. I thumbed a few texts and was astonished by sparsity of information on any given subject and asked my grandson about this. He said that the bulk of what they were taught was via classes and lectures that they had to furiously take notes in order to keep up. I suppose this encourages students to attend all of the classes but why then bother with these mostly over priced books. He's a smart kid and will do alright but I really feel like the whole thing's a rip off and what about those kids that will also graduate and know no more than they did in high school, which also wasn't much.

    Like labor unions... garbage..

Not Trade Unions mind you. They actually help their members.

Glad to hear it. Until they stop acting like Hitler brainwashers they should not get Federal aid from taxpayers. I had a good, unpolitical College life. I feel sorry for today's students.

The only James Gang album I ever bought was Bang, and only because Tommy Bolin was on it.

Colorado has a long musical tradition. There is even a kind of Colorado style of music. They probably have more bluegrass festivals than anyother state. The one in Telluride is probably the biggest in the country. Along with these are the jazz festivals. You can see this in that most home grown acts tend to be either acoustic or jazz flavored.

Throughout the seventies and eighties, the Denver/Boulder area had a really hot music scene. All national acts made their way to Denver on their tours, with many desiring to play at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheater. Plus there was a club scene that rivaled LA and New York. Any halfway descent young band could make a living playing the bars and clubs of the Front Range.

What really set it off though, was that Colorado became a cool place for musicians to hangout. Especially in the Boulder mountains. Part of it may have had to do with marihuana as Colorado had decriminalized marihuana in the early 70s. That and the fact the Boulder is just the coolest place on the planet. There was a music instrument store on Pearl Street in Boulder, where I used to buy my equipment from. At one point it became quite popular among rock stars. On any one day, I could pop in for some strings, and see someone from a national act, in there shopping.

The whole PMRC fiasco didn't go down very well in Colorado. There were even record stores who openly mocked the censorship efforts. It can even be said that the PMRC cost Al Gore the presidency. When Bill Clinton ran for president, just about every rock act, except for Ted Nugent of course, supported Bill Clinton by promoting him at their concerts.

However Tipper Gore was one of the leaders of the PMRC. Along with Susan Baker, wife of James Baker, Tipper Gore was the most hated woman in the world of rock-'n'-roll. So when Al Gore ran for president, no rock stars campaigned for him. As Bob Seager sang, Rock and Roll never forgets.

Average IQs don't tell a lot, especially in this context. IQs from 90 to 110 are considered average. And as everyone knows, average people do not do great things or go to college. A lot of college level work is beyond that of those with IQs below 120 or so. It is like when people make a big deal about how smart Ashkenazi Jews. When I see their average IQs touted, all I can say is that most Ashkenazi Jews are less Intelligent than I am, and the statistics bare it out.
