You are a conservative Christian. You believe a candidates faith is as important as his or her positions and political philosophies. So, your dilemma: who would you vote for -- a liberal Christian or a conservative atheist? The liberal will raise your taxes, open the borders, let the criminals out of jail, regulate commerce to the point where businesses can barely function, and grow government beyond your imagination... but he is a devout Christian and a follower of Christ. The conservative will keep taxes low, defend our borders, make sure criminals face justice, allow the market to function unmolested, and keep government growth under control. But he doesn't believe in God, doesn't affirm any faith, doesn't attend any church, and is generally ambivalent toward matters of faith.

    Who do you vote for?

I am a conservative christian, but I believe a candidate's religious beliefs to be trivial at best. I might have problem with a satan worshiper, some who claims to be a wizard, or anything like that. My vote is likely going to Ron Paul, if things continue as they are.

He is a supporter of Jihad in the U.S., better vote for Bin Laden as for Quran Admirer Paul.

Michel Bachmann is The Choice of all Conservative Christians, no RINOs and no Quran friends like "conservative" Allah Worshiper Paul.

For all who are illiterate in American politics (your's truly included), does that mean a vote on the liberal Christian or on the conservative atheist?

Just because he thinks Muslims are people too (they are by the way, go figure!) doesn't mean he supports jihad. And if Michele Bachman got the nomination, I would probably vote for Obama or just abstain from voting. And I am the strongest sort of conservative you will find. Michele Bachman is a white, christian supremacist who clearly hates muslims and gays. Picking her for the nomination would assure another 8 years of Obama, and the destruction of our country.

I vote for the one that I believe upholds to the Constitution and American way the best. I do, however, happen to vote conservative more times than democrat or liberal if that is what you ask.

The point of this thread is not to discuss specific candidates, but rather how important a candidate's faith is to you, a conservative Christian.

Very important. But I see both domestic and foreign policy as related to my faith so I would have to know which particular candidates you mean and not just a label. I mean a lot of people try to argue that Ron Paul is a 'conservative' but that removes any meaning that the word 'conservative' can convey.

If I had to choose between any of the candidates, I would go for Ron Paul.

The OP is asking about conservatives though. Ron Paul is not a conservative.

He is a GOP, and it says "conservative christians- who would you vote for". not "conservative christians- what conservative would you vote for"

Would it be too much of a stretch to assume that "conservative" Christians might want to vote for a "conservative" candidate?

No, because that isn't what he asked. I bet I could find a christian conservative who might end up voting for obama over whatever the GOP candidate is. Of course how conservative does that make him? not very

If you read the OP, you'll see that the Bow is talking to conservative Christians and who they would vote for:

There is nothing about the candidate having to be conservative, just who would we vote for. He talks about some conservative principles which Ron Paul does have. He has some beliefs I don't agree with, but I'd rather have him in the office than any of the other candidates.

For what it's worth I thought it was a good hypothetical. But it's apparently too difficult a subject for the target group.

Maybe I'll start a thead called, "Liberal Atheists -- who would YOU vote for?" Sounds much more interesting.

ALL GOP contenders are Believers in God. And since the OP asked, I'm a Conservative Christian and I'm saying it doesn't matter to me. I'd take a Michelle Bachmann (in a heartbeat, BTW) over Barack Obama. I'll vote for the naturalized Texan Ron Paul (if he wins the primary) over Barack Obama. Mitt Romney gets my vote if he's the majority's choice. See where I'm going here?

Doesn't matter. Anybody but Obama 2012.

Conservative libertarian? That's what I identify as. Most of the two principles align.

Sure, you've found one right here. If Ron Paul managed to win the GOP I would vote for the long-legged mack daddy. That is because the long-legged mack daddy is not as far removed from conservatism as Ron Paul is? See? Fortunately I will never be in that ridiculous position.

Besides the point, see above. A conservative will always vote for a conservative candidate - that is what makes them a conservative. If it's a choice between a socialist liberal and a raving anti-American headcase a conservative would vote for the socialist liberal as the lesser of evils and because it is not as far removed from conservative values as the other candidate.

Exactly. Why would a Christian 'conservative' vote for a candidate that is not a 'conservative? - or a candidate least removed from 'conservatism' if it was a choice of lesser evils - like say, Obama or Ron Paul. Any Christian 'conservative' would have to vote for Obama because he is least removed from 'conservative' values/ideology in contrast to the radical 'revolutionary' Ron Paul.

But that is the question addressed in this thread -- would you rather vote for an atheist who shared your political beliefs, or a devout Christian who was also a far left liberal? So in this case you only have two choices: a liberal Christian or a conservative atheist (I'll concede agnostic as well).

Actually I believe you've misread my position. ;)

For the purposes of this discussion, you only get two choices: a conservative atheist/non theist or a liberal Christian. Who does the conservative Christian pick?
