Conservatives and neoconservatives regularly show their disdain for education and people of knowledge. So the fact that Neil deGrasse Tyson is highly educated is enough for right-wingers to hate his guts.

However, recently, Tyson invited even more hatred from the right wing and Second Amendment fanatics when he Tweeted a few disturbing numbers concerning gun deaths in the U.S.

Second Amendment fanatics could not refute any fact mentioned by Tyson, so they resorted to their typical name-calling of anyone telling a truth they do not want to hear, or that can jolt the public into realizing the seriousness of that truth.

Since Tyson's topic was gun deaths, they then, as usual, justified death with more death.

The article, Tyson’s Tweets, and a few of the idiotic responses by Second Amendment fanatics can be read at the link below.

    Enjoy.

The responses are very on point. Anyone can pick comparitive numbers out of the air but it doesn't tell the whole story. That medical malpractice number was shocking.

I would say that is easily the bigger problem then guns.

Neil deGrasse Tyson is so intelligent that he makes Einstein seem ancient.

I'm glad Neil spoke out about the gun deaths in America. Hooray!

That must be why he hangs out on The Big Bang Theory.

Maybe he should go to Chicago and stop his black brothers from shooting each other to the tune of a dozen or so every week.

The cool think about deGrasse Tyson is that he doesn't care at all. Conservatives can't prove him wrong, so they attack him personally. But he just rises above the bickering and presents simple facts. No drama there.

Meanwhile, how ironic that people on blood pressure medication who are using computers ridicule science.

    I doubt Tyson would agree.

Tyson is an astronomer. Why should what he says about guns in America or other social policies be of any relevance.

Yeah, because being on a TV show totally diminishes the fact he's a brilliant scientist ....

    Your logic is utter nonsense.

Ben Carson is a Neurosurgeon. Why should what he says about gun or social polices be of any relevance ?

His numbers make no sense. How does he know they were household guns? It sounds more like, they were black market guns.

What fascinates me is that, in order for us to even have this discussion, we first had to be liberated and granted freedom. How did we do this? The gun. Without the gun our country would not exist.

I'm sorry, what is your lofty goal in life that has been attained that I should take what you say with any relevance? By your logic only the NRA should be able to say anything about guns......look where that's getting us.

No, we hate leftists. Ben Carson has a very high level of education, and he isn't hated by conservatives.

Can you prove they weren't household guns? Can you prove we would not exist without guns? (See what I did there)
How do you come up with "black market guns"?!!

Black market guns are not registered, mainly used in criminal activity, so the gun can't be traced back to the owner and leave a trail to the criminal. Most household guns today are registered, this is a gun a criminal would never purchase. When Neil says household guns, it only enhances those who believe in, no guns or very restrictive laws on them.
Which is probably why he uses the term household guns. When in fact most, if not all of the killings he is referring to, would have been from guns in the black market. Rendering what he said meaningless. Because whatever laws you put on guns, the criminals are not going to abide by them.

I never said we would not exist without guns. I said our country would not exist without guns. The enemy in which we wanted liberated from, their weapon was the gun. Therefore we had to have the gun to oppose them.

Neil Degrass is black, well spoken, and moderately intelligent(compared to Einstein)...this makes him a perfect spokesman, which is what he is....nothing more. comparing him to the likes of Einstein is insulting. He is the Obama of Science, lots of theatrics but little substance.

This is both ignorant and naïve on your behalf. I am a republican and a Christian, and yet have great admiration towards Neil deGrasse Tyson. I would absolutely disagree with him on this particular tweet. For him to use the term household gun, is far different than if he were to say, black market guns. And in making such a bold claim, he should at least reveal his source for such a claim. While I'm sure you would believe anything your told, I on the other hand would like facts.
Everything you have posted here, only shows how gullible you really are. Did you take his word for it? Because he shows absolutely zero evidence, no source just numbers.

It would appear that Neil deGrasse Tyson could have said any numbers he wanted to. The left wing would of still gobbled it up as fact. Instead of verifying it themselves they believe anything.

Do you know what else Ben Carson is? I didn't think so. To you a person is only what the media says they are.

Those who condemn science and knowledge are the same people who are the quickest to embrace any new and more efficient methods to kill their fellow man. The war hawks adore science that makes war more deadly. Of course, these are the same folks that oppose abortion, because, to their Christian morality, human life is precious.

I know what black market guns are and I'm sure Mr. Tyson does also so I seriously doubt his statistic was based on that. I'm sure he knew it was household guns.
"We" was implied as our country in your post so I don't know why you are playing semantics. Any country without guns (then and now) would cease to exist so what's your point?

Not believing in evolution and manmade global warming does not make someone "anti science".

I believe strongly that conservatives in general are more likely to support the U.S. space program. Carson has mentioned it specifically.
