Two police officers in Tennessee backed up a black real estate investor after a white neighbor called cops on him — the latest example of racial profiling incidents across the country.

In a 9-minute video posted to YouTube, real estate investor Michael Hayes detailed his May 5 visit to a home in Memphis he was inspecting before repairs were made.

“So we’re out here at a house now, one of where we’re under contract to pick up on, and for whatever reason, the neighbor has called the police on us,” Hayes said to the camera before asking the woman if the cops said when they’d be coming. “I mean, this is what we go through — [a] young black man out here trying to do what’s right and we get the police called on us.”

Hayes told the woman he had every right to be there, showing her his investment contract and a statement from the owner that he had permission to enter the home. Still, she was unmoved and called police, Hayes said.

“You keep the camera rolling,” a white male officer told Hayes. “If you have any problems with her, what I want you to do is call me back over here and she will go to jail today. I don’t fool around.”

So this lady has nothing better to do with her time. People who complain about taxpayer money being wasted should be appalled by this.............right?

The unidentified woman then claimed she had friends in the sheriff’s department, prompting the officer to quickly shut her down.

“I don’t care if you’re friends with the president,” the cop replied. “You’re going to let him do what he’s going to do. Listen to me — if you try to do anything to stop him, I’m going to take you to jail.”

All of this, not because he's committing a crime, but because she "doesn't want him there." Who the hell does this woman think she is? What a little entitled snowflake.

So a nosy neighbor was concerned that someone she had never seen in the neighborhood was entering a home near her and called the cops to check it out. What an incredible story!!! Will this be the cover story for Time Magazine this week???? I

Uh huh, then you tell the cops "you have friends" in the sheriff's department after they tell you he has a right to be there? It's clear why she called and it wasn't because she was a "concerned neighbor".

I think it is misleading to call this individual act of racism "profiling". Profiling has a LEO connotation (this may the first time I've heard it used to not mean "police profiling"), and the police in this case acted properly. Yeah, individual racism will always exist. Fearing the outgroup is baked into our evolutionary DNA. But if the law treats people equally, that's all I think we can reasonably expect.

Yeah, nobody likes a Gladys Kravitz (the neighbor from Bewitched)

Hayes said she yelled at him, asking what he was doing. He said he explained to her that he has a contract on the house and was there to inspect it.

He also showed her his business sign that he places in the yards of vacant properties, so people will know why he’s there.

Hayes said she continued to yell at him and told him to get out of her neighborhood because he had no right to be there.

He said she also lied and claimed she knew the owner. She said the owner didn’t want anyone in his house, even after Hayes showed her a written statement allowing him to enter the house.

Hayes said she then called the police, so he waited for them to arrive. In the video, he said the woman continued to insult him after the police officer showed up.

He explained to the officer who he was and why he was there. Hayes also showed him the paperwork giving him permission to be in the house and gave him his business card.

Okay, so that should be the end of it, right?

One of the officers called the homeowner of the vacant house, who assured them that Hayes was supposed to be there.

Hayes said the woman then insulted him and the police officers, saying they weren’t doing their jobs.

Okay lady, so what was supposed to be their job? They verified, even with the homeowner, that he had a right to be there, what else were they supposed to do?

Didn't the neighbor say that a latch on the back door had been broken previously?

Him showing her the documentation proving he had the permission of the home owner to be there should have ended this, but some people are so bored with their own lives they need to stick their nose in others business. Nothing wrong with being cautious, but calling the cops was a bitch move on her part.

Who says this woman wouldn't have done the exact same thing if the real estate dude were White........this type of incident happens everyday across America. If he had been White, and the exact same thing happened, nobody would have ever seen this story...

Not only that, the homeowner verifying this wasn't even good enough for her! At this point, you're not a concerned neighbor, you're racist, plain and simple.

So why was the police and homeowner's word not good enough for her? Does she own that home or something?

Any righty want to take a crack at this? Why wasn't the word of the police and, my heavens, the freaking homeowner good enough for her?

Funny, so many real estate people enter homes and the cops aren’t called. What a coincidence

At my job I have to deal with bitter old ladies sometimes and nothing warms my heart more then seeing those cheapskate, old, miserable hags put in their place.

Haha, even the rightwingers can't defend this one. They usually run to a story like this like a pack of hounds.

The reason she said the cops weren't doing their jobs is because the kid wasn't shot, beaten up, or told to leave. That was their "job" in her view, even after the homeowner says he can be there. Sucks for her and her defenders.
