The natural answer would be NO! The Secret Service would never allow it. But wouldn't a president be at least as safe (o. r safer) if surrounded by several thousand loyal soldiers than he would be surrounded by a few hundred Secret Service members?

I ask this because I was writing a story where the president sends a military force (including the 4th Armored Calvary Regiment, a specialized unit specifically designed by the president) overseas to fight and he chooses to go with it. Note the president in this story has never been a soldier himself so with the 4th ACR he is restricted to a "support role" like driving a truck, delivering ammunition and supplies. That sort of thing

And have a truck driver stand in for the President in the White House?

We could have an 8th grader stand in for Biden and not be able to tell the difference.

I'd say if ur gonna go that route, go all the way. Put the president on the front line where the troops fight all the harder to protect their commander in chief. Making him just a truck driver seems even more nonsensical imo.

    I agree with this.

Hmm....surrounded by a few hundred and several thousand miles from where the fighting is? He's going to be safer with that few hundred. Is there some reason that the President in your story couldn't be thousands of miles away? Other than him simply wanting to be there? Because if not then its nonsensical also. You would need to be going up against a global adversary like the movie Independence Day (as mentioned above) for the President to actually have a valid reason to not be thousands of miles away.

Given that the presence of the inexperienced President serves no military advantage, only disadvantages, the answer should be no, and that authority inside the command of the commanding officer reigns supreme in an active battle.

If the war is a war of choice; that is, not the result of an attack upon the homeland, I think the President should go to a place in or near the war zone. If he's going to send our young people off to die in some war of choice, he owes it to them to have some skin in the game himself. If he should happen to get killed, that's what we have a line of succession for.

Just something I've been writing on my computer.

The presidents reasons for going to the war zone are mainly political. To maintain support for the war both foreign and domestic,

Incidentally I also envisioned several high government officials besides the president "going to war".

In my story the vice president (a decorated war veteran) goes aboard a U.S. carrier in the South China Sea and the Speaker of the House (another war veteran) joins U.S. forces fighting in Iran.

Presidents have already gone into war zones; Afghanistan and Iraq got multiple President visits that were secret until he was either there or left. But if you mean the President donning a uniform and joining the fight that doesn't seem to make much sense.

Unless he has been a five-star general with decades of service in the battlefield, he'd only be standing in everybody's way. And several thousand loyal soldiers that could be fighting the enemy, having to instead protect the President.

I'd say, get him out of there!
