I'm so sick of the "Trump never did anything right in the history of the world," crowd. I'm equally as sick of the "Trump never did anything wrong in the history of the world," crowd.

The world is in a state of emergency and you clowns can't agree to work together to purge a mutual enemy. It's humans v virus.

Wow, so many lies in this thread I can't keep up!
And mostly from the SAME people who complained trump was racist because he stopped US/China travel before they even declared this a major problem.
I'll admit, his first speech about it was slightly over-optimistic but he came around quickly after that.
Trump, while a great president, is also overweight and has an orange face and huge white circles around his eyes....if you want to take medical advice from someone that clearly doesn't take care of themselves, thats on YOU. MAN UP and take responsibility for YOUR own actions. Trump is not yo daddy!

So you think he should have locked the whole country down at that point, sealed the borders?

He is in his mid 70s. Eating right and exercising don't make much sense at this point. Reminds me of when I was visiting my dad and stepmother. Her son in law who lives down the street had left strict instructions about what to cook for them at breakfast. I was like "Come on! They are both in their 80s! Why insist they eat turkey bacon now?"

"Thank you for demonstrating that neither you nor anyone can cite what he should have done differently, or sooner, and why a reason, rational person - without the benefit of hindsight - would expect him to have done so."

NOT disbanding the Pandemic Response Team

LISTENING to the daily briefings telling him how BAD this was going to get

REACTING to those briefings by marshaling resources and getting ready for this

    STOPPING travel from Europe

Quarantining those returning...ESPECIALLY those from cruise ships infected with the Virus

Oh sure. As if you and others would've supported President Trump if he did this.

be honest (though I'm not holding my breath).

I don't think his most loyal fan base would have supported that decision, but we had to all know, at least in the back of our minds, that something was different with this particular disease when Japan wouldn't let the Diamond Princess disembark. He must have been getting some very good intel, along with what the Japanese were getting. The Diamond princess crew & passengers were seriously angry, but now we all know it was the right thing to do.

I don't blame him for not acting immediately, but when the citizens of this country started realizing what was happening, and he was being flippant, it was very maddening. I'm not going to hindsight 20/20 this to death. He's taking it very seriously now, and I'm glad for that.

Trump could have done a better job preparing. But so could a lot of governments.

Where Trump erred was in his month long downplaying of the seriousness of the virus and the threat to the country from it. He was not just being neutrally apathetic, he was actively being a hindrance to a certain extent. The wheels could have been turning a lot earlier than they were. To his credit, he did wise up. Donald Trump might be an idiotic narcissistic buffoon, but he's also got a certain tenacity at pushing for what he wants. Had he used this skill to push for better preparations, we would be in a better place. There's probably a small element of hindsight involved in that prediction but it wasn't hard, even for me with no government intelligence access, to see what was coming down the pipe even in January.

Donald Trump chose to be Donald Trump about it for a long time. But he has shifted now. One news article I read described how Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx were in his office and gave him the projections that said it would be a unilaterally bad idea to try and reopen the country by Easter, and he looked at the data and decided they were right. This is unbelievable growth for a man like that.

I think that Donald Trump will always be a despicable man. But, if the planets align here and he allows himself, he has the chance to be a great president.

People don't give the Trump administration credit for getting that hospital ship up to New York City in days when it was predicted to take weeks given the ship was being refitted.

All of which is easy to say with the benefit of hindsight.

-You;re- the one trying to make a point with the facts in question -- if -you- can't tell us why you think he did it, then -you- can't tell us how they are an example of his mishandling of the issue.
    Still waiting for your answer.

Somewhere between these two statements is the truth.

We live in a age of globalized travel, if some one sneezes in China you’ll catch a cold here in the US. The Chinese government covered up the fact that they had a pandemic on their hands to begin with. Maybe Trump could have enacted travel restrictions earlier, but I doubt that would have done anything.
