Uganda, and a few other african nations, have been influenced by american evangelical christianity in this - not catholicism.

There's only one Catholic country in the world, isn't there?

And since it has adopted Italian law automatically since 1929, it doesn't outlaw homosexuality officially. Though it does of course ban it morally.

Do you know any catholic country?

Well, in Mexico there are states that kissing in the street is banned, women wearing short skirts, too. Catholic states, and obviously homosexuality.

But I don't know any other catholic country. I know that in Spain homosexuality was banned during the Franquism, a catholic dictatorship. Then when they can, they ban it. But the laicism is winning the battle, so they only can dream it. But in their most wet dreams they would like to have banned the homosexuality...

Uganda isn't a primarily Catholic country.

That's my point. While Catholics discourage homosexuality, we don't try to make it illegal. And not allowing gay marriage is not the same as making homosexuality illegal.

Land is never owned. Land belongs only to those that can hold it by might of arms and that includes my home here in America. The day that America falls to the "might of arms" of another nation, my "rights" to this place I call home, end.
Currently the Israelis hold the land that is called Israel, by might of arms. One day, someone will take it away from them. All land has changed hands, nations and people, thousands and thousands of times. Reality IS!

    By definition:
MIRACLE - A surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is considered to be divine.

So, since a miracle is OUTSIDE the laws of science, there can be no such thing as a scientifically documented miracle.

In fact, since Miracles are outside natural and scientific laws, then by that definition, they do not exist. No such thing as miracles, just things that happen.

Catholicism is the most prevalent religion there, at 44% of the population. Aside from the Vatican, there is no truly "Catholic country," but Uganda fits any other definition of the phrase.

Catholicism is still more prevalent than any other religion there. If the law is passed, it will have at least some Catholic supporters behind it.

christianity is not monolithic. Catholic bishops are not highly regarded by many evangelists - their words may carry as much weight as those of an atheist.

Actually there are 5 roman catholic states in the world, they are:
    Costa Rica
    Liechtensteina
    Malta
    Monaco
    Vatican City
These are the only states which have the govt mandated official religion of Roman Catholicism.

An official religion does not constitute a non-secular state. For that to be the case the church has to be granted legislative, judicial and executive powers.

The constitution of Malta does indeed seem give the RCC sufficient authority to count as a religious state, so I may stand corrected. But otherwise the Vatican is the only non-secular, Catholic state that I'm aware of.

What is even more interesting is why anyone is talking about the Catholic Church in reference to Creationism? The Catholic Church accepts evolution as a part of its doctrine.

Darwin said it didn;t conflict, and ... now we see that it does not. Darwin was right.

Not quite accurate. As seen in this Court Order issued just a few years back, looking at the final two pages of the Order, you will see that the Holy See (Vatican City) is held accountable in a 'commercial' claim... thus making the Holy See operable within the secular realm. It being subject to the laws of the secular government it also has to not hold absolute immunity from prosecution.

As far as I am concerned any nation, state or country which has any religion assigned by law as the state religion is a religious state.
That includes the five mentioned as well as numerous other non-christian states such as IRAQ who has a constitution which states that Its laws will be based on the QUR'AN.

If this was the case, then surely it would be in the Catechism, but surely it is not. The Catholic Church does not take scientific theories and make it part of their doctrine. I think you're confusing Catholics with militant positivist atheists.

Fair enough. I myself distinguish between church based on law and law based on church. It's the same distinction between a theocracy and all other government constructs.

The Pope, being the head of the Roman Catholic Church, issued an edict, or papal bull or some such nonsense, saying that Evolution did not in any way conflict with the teachings in the bible.

    exactly,

which makes me wonder what a thread on creationism in schools has do do with catholicism ... unless a poster is using the fact that evolution is taught in science classes in catholic schools as evidence that those who argue for the teaching of creationism as a core belief of christianity, and therefore that evolution is in opposition to christianity, are talking out of their arses.

    which may well be true.

It is my opinion that creationism should not be taught to little children at all. When people are in the senior years of high school (and can easily differentiate between fact and fiction,) creationism may be examined, alongside the myths of Gilgamesh, The Golden Fleece, and the Norse gods.

According to the Vatican, Catholics do not beleive evolution conflicts with its teachings and surprise surprise, they also do not take the bible to be the literal truth.
