As far as how common it is, my god powers are somewhat limited and I won't make any assumptions. As far as rebelling, it seems we have different interpretations of the application of the word, and it's coming down to hairsplitting and we're derailing things. Have a great day.

I'd rather bend toward the left on this, because as we have seen, the right only wants to take away people's rights.

So then, to be consistent, you would disagree with the poster, I'd just been reading, saying that the Left should just ignore Tucker Carlson; claiming that the reason Tucker Carlson is so popular, is because the Left so focuses on him?

"Of course" you would feel that, we (on the Left) should "talk about how stupid," and blatantly false, are the lies & propaganda Tucker comes up with, right? "Why shouldn't we?"

Whatever. You seem to not understand my meaning, for some reason, though I'd made it, I think, plainly clear. I don't feel I had been "derailing things," by asking if you had any idea, if the practice which you'd cited, yourself, for this thread, is an extremely RARE, or an extremely COMMON one. With your having no sense at all, then, of how applicable it might be, why even bother mentioning it?

It seems hard to believe, you think it requires a degree of divinity, in order to even hazard a guess, on something like that. And yet, I am sure that you would have some opinion of how widespread are other practices, without always having the statistics to back up your impressions. So it is just this topic, upon which you feel especially at sea?

Forgive me for thinking that, just because you had brought something up, you might have an opinion about it, that you wished to share.

Well... I suppose you could quite accurately identify as a group of cells acting together. There are millions of you. You are definitely "they".

Have you tried telling them that your personal pronoun is "your majesty" or "master"? Would be rude for people not to regard you as you demand, right? :)

I find it's really interesting to just express some very conservative views and then tell him you identify the same way as they do it makes it not cool anymore and that's all it's about.

If you're of a certain age and you start doing things that the kids do they stop doing it.

Not accurate. Note that I didn't say not true. Thing is the use of the singular "they" has been debated by scholars for many years now, even before the transgender push on pronouns, but, relatively speaking, that's only been recently. As noted earlier in the thread, the use of the singular "they" actually predated the use of the singular "you". I get it. It was something that I also was taught in school, on how "they" was plural. However, in doing research on it for debates such as this, is how I learned how long we have been using singular "they", and about the current debate among scholars.

He was saying that instead of being worded as "They did the thing", it was replaced by "He or she did the thing". Not that the individual terms of "he" and "she" later replaced "they" as singular pronouns.

And this is what shows the fear. When opponents want to claim negatives about transgenders, they always go to the MtF's and never even mention the FtM's. Same with the homosexuals. They always call out the male gays as wrong, but never say one word about the female gays. I guess that could be sexism as well as trans/homophobia.

I take it you never did papers in college. Even in high school (I graduated in '89) we had to use the APA style of grammar and citation. The APA style has been in use since the 1890's and is older than you and I combined.

No, of course not. They and Dictionaries are the trackers of the English language, as as such will lag on the usage. Society is the keeper of the English language and is why language is always changing and evolving. New meanings are added, old forms go away, and how words are spoken change. It's been like that for thousands of years. Living languages are not static. Fact.

Great. Good luck in the quest to have everyone engage in the mentally ill pronoun game.

You're not still using "thee", "thou" and "thy" are you? Welcome to the use of the singular "you". History shows that the language will change and the later generations will mostly think it's always been that way.

LoL "fear". It's not fear, it's pity.

Men that think they're women are at least twice as common, and some sources say as much as four times as common as women that think they're men.

It's simple statistics and is the majority of cases we talk about because that is simply the majority of cases presented.

We're not picking 'em, they are.

In addition to that, the majority of people here are men, so that's what we're familiar with.

In addition to THAT, men that think they're women are easily able to dominate women in sports. They're able to rape and impregnate actual women in prisons. Most of the problems we see are in this category.

When females that think they're male start raping dudes in prison and knocking out male boxers, let us know so we can complain about it.

Doesn't take a whole lot of deep thinking to figure it out.

Most of the females that think they're males just put out crying videos about how they have to work 40 hour work weeks and are expected to do too much.

    They should man up harder.

    But sure, it's the "fear".

    Great.

    Same challenge.

Give me your oldest example of the English language using "they" as a singular pronoun that doesn't have a plural antecedent.

Only if it has a plural antecedent, as I have already covered.

At no time in the English language was a plural pronoun ever used for a known, singular subject.

    You're welcome to give examples.

I did many papers in both he school and college was marked down for improper use of pronouns. You might want to check the revision history of the APA.

Since singular "they" has been around since the 14th century, you can't attribute that to "wokeness". Nice try though. And I don't doubt the APA of the 80's is different from today. That would go hand in hand with the point that language changes and evolves. Doesn't detract from the fact of how long singular "they" has been in use. Longer than even singular "you".

I'm not sure that's correct. Funny that it would be ok in 1400, and then not ok in the mid-twentieth century.
Sorry, you're wrong. The use of a plural pronoun while references an entity is confined to reference that entity as a whole. For instance "mob" or "team". IF you're referring to those entities as a whole, rather than referencing the members. AP has revised its style guides many times.
For instance "the team took the field, wearing THEIR home uniforms" vs the team lost the game. It was eliminated from the tournament.[/QUOTE]
