Dare I say it? Repealing the Second Amendment. Is this an idea worth exploring?

Right where the loony left wants it to go: In the dumper. They're doing their best to destroy the First Amendment; makes sense the Second would be in their sights also.

Where in the world did Trump and FB come up?

And its relevant to your post because of your comment about "We just need a Supreme Court that interprets it as it was originally intended. Which would make it obsolete given that militias are no longer necessary to the security of a free state." Everyone knows that it is your belief that you believe that the 2nd Amendment only applied to militia's. You even have a whole thread dedicated to it iirc. Such is a false belief.

Your guns don't protect you from government tyranny, sorry. I'm not a big gun control proponent, but the narrative of using them to stop government tyranny seems... absurd. Maybe it was less absurd during the revolutionary war, when rifles were a more serious part of offensive warfare. Soon to be overshadowed by artillery, and later other hardware.

I have been advocating for this for decades. Its an archaic piece of history, that does way more harm than it does good. I can't see any advantage to its existence anymore.

Really? Who controls Afghanistan again? Despite a war we fought for 20 years....

If you spent some time in Iraq and Afghanistan, you would see that a civilian insurgency can defeat an extremely well armed force in their homeland. Nothing absurd about the notion at all.

An effective insurgency isn't dependent upon anything except the will of the occupied being greater than the occupier, which isn't about how many pistols they had in their closets. If they didn't have guns, they would just use IEDs.

Convicted felons can't possess guns - it's the law. How's it working?

Nothing to do with confiscating all guns.

LOL most criminals and control freaks agree with you. anyone who wants a free America doesn't. I want a society where the citizens have access to the same weapons that civilian authorities might use against them

One of my good friends (albeit I see a lot less of him during his 12 years in the Senate) was talking about gun control years ago when he was a congressman. Someone said 10 million or even 50 million armed citizens with AR 15s couldn't overthrow the government. he noted that if even 10 professional shooters wanted him or any other politician dead, chances are they would be. He noted that he thought that was a good thing-that as long as American politicians knew if they pushed things too far, good people with lots of training might resist.

I call this the rattlesnake scenario. Any normal human can kill a rattlesnake by stepping on it. But they may well get bit and die or suffer grievous injury. So it is best to leave the snake alone because rattlesnakes don't tend to attack people unless they are molested. Same with lawful gun owners. They want to be left alone and have no desire to harm others

it would never happen, so it's a waste of time, as much so as the right trying to ban abortion

the reality is, if the 2nd was overturned, it would be as hard to buy a gun as it is to get a concealed carry permit

I would not trust the left not to go too far left on this issue

any more than I would trust the right to make laws on a women's body
