I agree completely with your first statement. The men and women on the front lines are doing us all a service... yet, they do not have a choice in the service they perform. Sometimes it is one that is vital to the relatively comfortable lives we have as Americans and sometimes... well, simply put, it is not so vital.

However, your last statement is dubious. Who is to say for sure what kind of world we would have today without oil? Not without oil completely, of course, but what I mean is, a far less dependent-on-oil version if the world. It is possible that we would have a completely different and more technologically-advanced society if oil went the way of Nikola Tesla's wireless energy's research (funding was pulled abruptly) and vice-versa. Or perhaps, if more funding and development went into vehicles that were fueled by non-oil products earlier in the 20th century, to use another example. The unprecedented global dependency on oil has been a hindrance on the development of society from a technological perspective, not to mention the damage it has incurred on a true free-market system.

 

And how many black kids were at the top of Enron, KBR, Leeman Bros, & AIG?

I guess for conservatives it's only stealing if they don't' have to do math.
