A dedication to my sweet Viv, by Libhater

    A Scotland Farewell

In Scotland, green Scotland, on the East coast of Scotland,
I found her and I loved her...in vain, I traveled on.

And time passes slowly while my heart's still turning
to those bonny shores of Scotland, though I've long since been gone.....

Come away, come away from the green hills a callin'
come away from the dew drops that fall on the moor.

For my tears say it's only my heartbeat I'm hearin'
Not the beat of the North Sea 'gainst the pale Montrose Shore.

Her face is a portrait deeply etched in my memory,
And the taste of her sweet kiss is as fresh on this day

As the night I last held her and cried in her arms there
to know I must leave her, to know she must stay......

So, here's to Scotland, green Scotland, the East coast of Scotland
And here's to the lass I loved that I left behind

And here's to you, friend, and that tear in your eye now
I'll drink to your sorrow if you'll drink to mine

    James Smith

Not going to read it before responding?

Smith was a Scot but his vision was still blatantly failing by the 19th century and you are mistaking his motives if you think he upheld capitalist greed for your reasons. His people were still struggling with economic poverty and mistreatment more oppressive than what is happening today. The rich grabbed (and still do) most of the land and ejected the people, who were left to wander about starving (and end up in US etc). He saw the start of industrialisation where women and children worked 14 hour days. The Government as still happens now, was run by the landed gentry and rich, greedy merchant classes and Government just exacerbated the destitution to further their profits.

Smith argued against government interference to challenge the economic control of the upper classes. He would keel over to see his theory abused to justify greed by people like yourself. He wanted the market to counter greed, to stop the public being cheated and improve their living standards. He mentioned the propensity of industrialists to “generally have an interest to deceive and even to oppress the public.” Ain't that the truth. But his theory hoped it could balance out in the right direction.

His theory was wrong, as we see all around us it destroyed the world economy and it's not over yet. Ref banking corruption in UK, which will no doubt spread universally when it all comes out.

Of course truly corrupt societies won't care about corruption in banking, as long as the profits roll in. Who values morality of any description these days. Wealth is much more valued.

Sorry for not staying within the boundaries of your insistance that we always dedicate a book to a forum member, but I just have to respond to your nonsense here. Where do you get this misunderstanding that capitalists are greedy, or that you truly believe that America became the greatest economic nation on the face of the earth by greed, and greed alone? Perhaps you have a problem in understanding the capitalist metdod in which America became prosperous and great because you are indeed a European, or maybe you still haven't come to grips with the determination of Americans to break away from the English Kingdom to become a self comprising nation all on its own. The Scotsman Adam Smith is on our and my side here, dear, and his theories are right on the money.

I'm a fervent supporter of capitalism and the U.S., but LMAO at this line. Think of the major industrialists. JP Morgan was greedy as hell. He sold cheap crap to the Union Army to make his fortune. Greed is not always a bad thing, so don't lose your (*)(*)(*)(*) over Viv making a point. Greed works in economics.

While I give you the reality that there are a few capitalists/industrialists that are greedy sonofab!tches, for the most part the majority of these men are anything but greedy. I'm a capitalist and I have no need or want to be greedy as I do the LORD's work for him in a charitable manner.

Oh get a grip of yourself. The whole world economy is in the crapper because of selfish capitalist greed, have you missed that?

Smith's intent was to improve the lot of the common man via market forces and make his standard of living better. Your type (yes I said your type) have made your lot better at the expense of the common man. Smith's theories fell on their arse centuries ago and have spectacularly done so again...if you can't find any capitalist greed in that scenario, read up on the current UK banking scandal. The word Libor will feature heavily. If you can't be bothered reading, just wait until it starts exposing the capitalist greed and corruption in US. It's going to hit the fan directly.

Not going to pop up then. (I had to say it, the joke was on, but I don't mean it)

Why do I find it impossible to visualise you and the Lord in the same work area...

Wow, somewhere along the line you missed the boat when it comes to understanding exactly why the world is in this economic mess. There was a time here in America when there were about 5 to 6 taxpaying workers to support every single government ward of the state via welfare, social security, medicare, medicaid etc. Currently there is about 1 tax paying worker to help support every single government ward of the state, and it is decreasing as we breathe GOD's pure air. Socialist Europe is crumbling i.e. Greece before your very eyes because of their overburdening welfare/socialist state. The welfare leeches are demanding more and more bennies and the tax revenues just aren't there any more to pacify those whining leeches. Same thing is happening here in America under obamunism; from the New Deal to the Great Society social program blunders to current day socialism--America's small businesses have gone into hiding because they can't afford to pay for new hires or for their medical plans, or in keeping up with obama's massive regulations and tax burdens so many of them have closed or sent their business overseas to escape the harsh realities of the social engineering called obamunism. Obama uses the failed European template to in making policy here in America. Once Romney gets into office (a true capitalist) then America will be able to enjoy a free market success again as we had back in the 80s under Ronald Reagan.

You see Viv, the problem we now see here in America is this clash between Constitutionalism and Utopianism, and thus I shall dedicate another timely book to you and for your learning enjoyment on how the world actually works. The book is called "Ameritopia"...the Unmaking of America by the best selling author of "Liberty and Tyranny" Mark R. Levin. Mark does make the distinction between those who seek to destroy America (Socialists) and those who seek to make America that shining city upon the hill...i.e. the Capitalists.

That should be reversed, few capitalists are motivated by God to get rich to help charities but most capitalists are motivated by cocaine, high end escorts and other expensive things speaking from experience.

And you have the unbiased facts on that and are going to share them now in an unbiased way we can all trust.

And? It's happening everywhere. People are living longer. There are no jobs. But you were unhappy with levels of care in the system long before the current economic crisis. Your disrespect for the disadvantaged has not arisen from anything new or current. It is rooted in something quite different and less palatable to decent people.

Let me tell you a story in return for yours, but mine will be fact and not fiction. I have been in Greece and I was there before it joined the EU. It's a beautiful country and the people are lovely, but the poverty pre-EU was palpable. Greece is not crumbling, it was never financially viable. It cooked the books to join the EU and hoped to get away with it long enough to raise living standards and reach the level where it could manage to meet EU demands without cooking the books.

In normal circumstances where US financial fecklessness did not pull the rug from under the EU, Greece might have got away with this. Sadly not. Greece is poor, it's always been poor, because it appears to be a Greek tradition not to pay tax. If you don't pay tax, you don't have public funds to finance public social care. This is not a new conundrum for Greece. We will see whether bailouts keep it afloat and if they do, it's unlikely to stay in the current form as it will be Gerrymandered into changing its entire tax and accounting system and evidencing that if it wants to remain in the EU.

Which is it, can't hire or can't pay medical plans?

They can't afford to hire new people because capitalist banks have taken bailouts to enable them to continue to extend business loans, but the same banks are witholding finance from small business and that is causing small business to collapse.

They will surely be less pressured regarding medical plans under Obamacare, as the entire point is to provide health care which doesn't bankrupt people or small business.

Ronald Reagan created credit and deregulation, which caused the mess we are in today. He lived in never never land on screen and in real life.

Constitutionalism is Utopianism. The Constitution is never fully observed, it is impractical and impossible to enact it fully. Not unlike religious texts, it is a guide written centuries ago by people who had no idea what life would be like today. The world has changed and your system is too cumbersome to allow an upgrade to something relevant with potential for full implementation.

Ameritopia is about right for your views. None of which are based in fact and all of which are as useful as Utopian dreams.
