Kickin' the homeless when they're down... Advocates: Cities passing rules targeting homeless October 8, 2012 Army veteran Don Matyja was getting by alright on the streets of this city tucked in Southern California suburbia until he got ticketed for smoking in the park. Matyja, who has been homeless since he was evicted nearly two years ago, had trouble paying the fine and getting to court and now a $25 penalty has ballooned to $600.
Many people are an illness or accident away from being homeless... or as you call them "chronically lazy". Nice stereotype though. Ignorance must be bliss...
Check out these anti-homeless designs: Some of them look like they could be potentially dangerous to pedestrians. http://www.slate.com/content/dam/sl.../140612_EYE_07.jpg.CROP.original-original.jpg Some of these are funny.
This is insulting in the worst way. Just flat out insulting. I hope some day you find yourself homeless so you can watch someone sit on their throne and waggle their finger at how disgusting YOU are. Oh. Yes. I pray for it to happen to you. And congrats. You are the first one on my ignore list I thought I would never have to use here.
And for those in this thread that have tunnel vision that it would never happen to you as you sit in your lounge chairs stuffing your faces with pizza and living in mommies basement....think again. Meh. Good to see who thinks what although it's disgusting.
Most people fail to realize they are only 3 paychecks away from being homeless, today's economy and punitive Banking system does not favor lower income homeowners, I heard a County Inspector threaten an Elderly home owner a NAVY Veteran with eviction if he did not keep the septic tank repaired, and this property is 5 acres in a farming community.
And if he does lose everything, he knows he can go to a nice park during the day and catch maybe a bit of shuteye because at night is when the gangbangers come out and he needs to stay vigilant. Oh. Wait. No he can't. Nobody wants to see the helpless dirty up their pretty park. It would be an eye sore to them. So just stick pokey things everywhere. I hope someone FOR those benches and walls and floors slips in the next heavy rain and lands on their face on one of them.
Yeah, that really makes Me Nauseous to think anyone would deny any homeless person a dry spot to sleep, NYC had steam leaks that homeless people would make a tent near and keep toasty warm all winter. We can buy Stealth Bombers at a huge cost per, but can't make high rise buildings to house everyone that is homeless now ?
I agree, whey should Indians and Amish be the only ones allowed to check out of modern society - - - Updated - - - it seems we could make some kinda prison type structure without door, this could house many people for cheap.... the reason this will never happen is cause neighboring house prices would fall, no one would want to live next to that building - - - Updated - - - old folks homes, pro-rated rent and services based on social security income .
" it seems we could make some kinda prison type structure without door, this could house many people for cheap.... the reason this will never happen is cause neighboring house prices would fall, no one would want to live next to that building." No, that is a load of Hooey, just high rise buildings with normal apartments for regular human beings, not some cheap animal shelters, there are enough abandoned or low rent areas far enough from anybodies back yards, that can be rehabilitated, and will not devalue anyone's property values. Why make ridicule, when there are perfectly good solutions to all these problems ?
Speak for yourself. I am not "three paychecks away" from being homeless. If you are, then you have a major problem. - - - Updated - - - Sure...let's build the first one next door to your house!
Question: Once they get the homeless off the streets and maybe into Low Income housing, who pays for monthly rent and monthly expenses?? So instead of getting them 'off' the streets, what other things might help them remain self sufficient once they do get off the streets? Employment training? Job Search Assistance? Job Placements? Places where people 'hire' out of? etc.... Daily 'temp' agencies could be an idea.. This, though, takes an effort on Private/Public businesses and Private/Public Job hiring/placing sites.
This is a unique fix: http://images.search.yahoo.com/sear...e+homeless+shelter+sheds+&fr=ipad&fr2=piv-web I saw a demo in Racine Wi. of a couple models. Genius ideas.
How much monies does a State spend on the homeless issue without getting any answers or any resolutions? California spends billions on homelessness issues yet they are still facing high levels of homeless related complaints. 1 million $$ will buy you an entire Town, with amenities and all. Billions verses Millions. Yearly verses once. Doing verses talking. What is/are the 'homeless problems' in Virginia like? Published on Dec 6, 2017 Portsmouth, Virginia https://governor.virginia.gov/ Projects Announced 1,074 Projects Jobs Created 207,000 Jobs Capital Investment $19.35 Billion VA's Health Care for Homeless Veterans program offers examinations treatment, referrals, and case management services to homeless Veterans at more than 135 locations. And VA's Homeless Veterans Dental Program provides dental treatment for eligible homeless Veterans. VA's National Center on Homelessness Among Veterans (NCHAV), established in 2009, works to promote recovery-oriented care for Veterans who are homeless or at risk for homelessness by developing and disseminating evidence-based policies, programs and best practices. https://www.research.va.gov/topics/homelessness.cfm What is a Veteran? Title 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations defines a veteran as “a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.” This definition explains that any individual that completed a service for any branch of armed forces classifies as a veteran as long as they were not dishonorably discharged. However, with regard to applicable benefits, other considerations are important and will be covered in later sections. https://va.org/what-is-a-veteran-the-legal-definition/ Under federal law, a veteran is any person who served honorably on active duty in the armed forces of the United States. Discharges marked “general and under honorable conditions” also qualify. Other qualifying events are any person who served in the active military, naval or air service of the United States and was discharged from the service due to a service-connected disability or filed a claim and was service-connected for a disability sustained while in the service. http://www.dailyrepublic.com/opinion/local-opinion-columnists/who-qualifies-as-a-veteran-anyway/ I must say the definition of exactly what it takes to be a veteran is not an easy question to answer. I will do my best to give you an idea of the definition of veteran from the perspective of the Department of Veterans Affairs. So what do we really want this to ultimately lead to: isolated communities where we "keep" the homeless and the very unfortunate, or a plan to accommodate and benefit them with education and assistance? When I was a young guy in the 60s we didn't have a homeless problem. This is relatively new and a symptom of a decaying economic system. We need a new system that doesn't require such conditions in order that the rich may keep compounding their wealth.
One thing that is a failure is low income high risers..people become anonymous..low risers are successful. Also mixed income housing.
I think we did have the problem, but most of us didn’t know about it...where I taught in Brooklyn, it was quite a problem
It was a localized problem of "bums" but not widespread, commonplace makeshift homeless "communities" in every major city and most smaller ones. I live in a small community of about 6,000 people and we have a homeless camp in a wooded area by the railroad tracks. They come into town and panhandle and are creating a filthy area that the townspeople will have to pay for to get it cleaned up.
