I was talking about restrooms. I mentioned before that I understand the concern with locker rooms. Also, these are things that happen anyway, and they happen with hidden cameras placed in a restroom outside of normal operating hours. Restricting access to restrooms based on gender doesn't stop things you're talking about. I have no reason to think the incidents would increase if gender restriction was removed.

I'm not talking about encouraging any fantasies. I'm talking about removing complications about who can use what facility from the discussion. I don't know enough about body dysmorphic disorder or gender confusion or whatever it's called this week to debate much about it. But these arguments get bogged down in "boys using girls restrooms! The horror!" as if it would be so terrible. I want to know what would actually be so terrible about it, and so far it seems to be different posters' personal nightmares that are either completely fictitious or not actually impacted by gender restriction.

I have a question: has anyone ever gone in one of those family bathrooms? I went in one once just out of curiosity. Much to my dismay/horror there was a man in there by himself. How do I know this? Because as I waited outside my son's stall the man exited his own and left. Now I am forever glad I was in there with my son. Am i assuming the worst? Maybe. However, it was creepy.

You're not making the case for why a boy can't simply use the boy's restroom where everyone shares the same kind of plumbing. You seem to think that everyone else (including my daughter) has to make room for some mentally ill kid whose condition is being rationalized instead of treated. The world doesn't work that way.

Nothing that happens today surprises me anymore.

Then why have separate faculties to begin with? I would imagine most women would be uncomfortable in a unisex environment. I can think of more than once when the male facilities were disgusting I should have just used "I am lesbian trapped in a male body" to obtain a more hygenical place to sit.

To me it should be simple as everyone with a penis goes to the boys restroom. Everyone with a vagina goes to the girls restroom. If you have both you hit the lottery and can use either one. While everyone wants privacy you should not violate others privacy in pursuit of your own.

Before everyone goes crazy it should be pointed out that Hitler was spot on about lots of things. The VW Beetle remains the only real "peoples'" car made in the 20th century and the Autobahn remade Germany's economy as surely as the Interstates have made ours.

OTOH this wasn't one of them. I would like to point out to most of the conservatives on the board that the physical anatomy of women makes stand up urinals impossible for them, so all the toilets are in private stalls. If the guy is really putting his telephone on a stick or something I would think it a lot easier to just use the old hole in the wall trick.

I noted the full article (which came from a rather Christian biased site) was rather unclear on whether the boy was allowed in the girl's showers, though one letter protesting the decision said that "changing areas" were being included, while the school decision quoted did not.

Have you considered the adjusting of bras, the application of deodorant, the changing of garments of all kinds and the hiking of pantyhose etc. that goes on in the areas 'outside' of the stall?

For the simple reason that it's scientifically unsound. Don't jump on kids just because they recognize logic

I'm trying to make the case for decluttering the debate on this kind of thing by removing the accommodations aspect of it. Unless people are sitting on toilets in full view of everyone else in the restroom (again, haven't been in a woman's restroom, but I suspect that's not the case), I don't see any reason to make restrictions on restrooms based on gender. Work out something similar about locker rooms and this accommodation part of the debate evaporates. Except for prison, I guess. That's another can of worms.

If the comfort of someone who is transgendered is ignored for the sake of the debate, I'm not sure why the comfort of those who are secure in their gender identity should be so important. I don't necessarily disagree with gender-segregated restrooms, but if discomfort is the best argument any has for it, then it seems pretty arbitrary.

Is there a reason these things can't happen in a stall? I obviously don't understand the female mentality, but I've changed clothes in a stall before without issue.

Why don't we just move civilization back 10,000 years and we can all just procreate in the streets with any female we can chase down?
Isnt that essentially the same thing here? Disregard thousands of years civilized decency just to revert back to primitive state?
I know youll say that unisex bathrooms are enlightenment and I have been in one several times. That's the club scene for adults and they're mostly used for cocaine consumption, not high schools.
let them become adults then make adult decisions. As this stands one person is making an adult decision for every female in that school.
I don't personally mind if little Johnny wants to wear a dress. Just don't go squirming out of it anywhere in proximity to where my daughter is doing the same and definitely not without her permission.
If women do not consider this a war on women then they need to suck up the rest of the perceived war and let everything go.

Because while that which comforts the "transgendered" is a threat to the sanity of normal people, the reverse is not true since the "transgendered" haven't got any to threaten.

I don't know if it's possible to have an honest conversation with someone who sees no difference between two people of the opposite gender using the same restroom and literally (*)(*)(*)(*)ing in the street like animals. Good luck finding someone who puts up with that hyperbole.

He was speaking dramatically about the foolishness of throwing away 10,000 years of the evolution of society. I guess you missed that too.

And I was, in kind, pointing out that maybe he shouldn't be such a drama queen. I don't know why I'm surprised you didn't understand that since you like to defame some who disagree with you by insinuating that they're pedophiles.

    - - - Updated - - -

Sorry, what solutions have I proposed? If you think it's unisex bathrooms, then you should probably go back and read my original post saying that maybe everything should be like family restrooms and locker/changing rooms. And if you think that means boys and girls sharing a bathroom, then you may want to check your own understanding of the world before questioning mine.

Anyway, in addition to that, I'm just asking what the actual harm is for boys to use a girls restroom and vice versa. So far, the best anyone has come up with is that some folks might be uncomfortable. I'm not sure if settling for what makes people comfortable has ever produced much good for society in the long run.

Cant claim to be an expert on primitive history but for the sake of honest discussion lets assume the human species stopped procreating and crapping in the village square at about the same time.
It would have been done out of civilized decency. You would like to return to one uncivilized behavior while pretending it has no relations in morals to the other. Bravo

What uncivilized behavior are you talking about? Please be specific about the behavior's alleged incivility.

The only reason to allow a boy to use a girls bathroom is because he must be comfortable there. You really don't think about what you post do you?

Or because the boys' room is full, or closed, or because gender restriction is sometimes silly, or because gender confusion may very well be a real thing and discrimination is wrong, or... You really don't consider anything beyond your own point of view before posting, do you?

Privacy. Privacy is one of the earliest marks of civilization. It would be the cornerstone of the simple idea that individuals have rights. The right to privacy probably was one of the first rights enforced with a Brontosaurus bone upside the head. Not crapping in your neighbors lap probably came later but its all related.

So you agree with me that all restrooms maybe should be like the family ones: essentially individual rooms that aren't restricted by gender? That's pretty much the height of privacy with regard to restrooms and eliminates this part of the transgender debate.

Oh I've considered it all. I wouldn't offer you the correct opinion if I hadn't considered it all.
All those points are points of comfort which you yourself have stated to be irrelevant if not harmful to society. Congratulations for eventually becoming enlightened.

Its your belief that privacy should not be offered on a gender basis? If that's the case little Johnny in the dress can use the little boys room can't he?
