True. Nevertheless, beef can contain worms. http://www.uaex.edu/Other_Areas/publications/PDF/FSA-3045.pdf I eat my beef medium rare. I cook my hamburgers well done though. I've even raw pork quite a few times. Sometimes when you're really hungry, it just doesn't matter. I would not recommend that though. It's been some years since I've eaten any undercooked pork. I had food poisoning one time. It only lasted 24 hours, but it was a pretty intense 24 hours of throwing up and diarrhea. I got it from either mayonnaise or deli meat though. I've never gotten sick from meat. I eat sushi all the time too. I can't get enough tuna rolls.
What? It's FOOD man, that is good lean meat who cares if it's bones and skin and stuff? Human beings can really eat just about anything. It's our cultural prejudices that prevent us from doing so. There was the story about a guy trapped in a lifeboat for 3 1/2 weeks and he was catching fish and at first he ate just the skin and meat, but then his body began to starve from lack of key vitamins and such. So he began eating the eyes, liver, heart and other internal organs. His brain was so starved that it literally made this food into a delicacy and to this day he claims that he still gets in the mood for fish eyes and organs. Food is food.
It's not the 'bones and skin' that disturbs me so much (even though the nutritional value of some of it is going to be pretty limited!) as the 'stuff' - all of the chemical stabalizers, 'flavourings', preservatives and so on that have to be added to it (not to mention the excessive amounts of salt, which really isn't good for you), just to make it edible. I'm certainly no 'purist' that never consume 'bad food' or anything - I enjoy it just like everyone else. What's important, though, is to realise what foods are actually 'bad' and eat them in moderation. Living on McDonalds would not be a healthy thing to do, especially for children, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be eaten at all. It's about applying a bit of common sense and moderation, but sadly many people not only don't have that with regard to 'junk' processed foods, but don't even realise that there is anything wrong with their diets (and the diets they are providing for their kids). Doctors and health professionals don't bang on about having a 'healthy, balanced diet' for no reason - it's pretty important for maintaining health (especially in children). OK, they don't expect perfection from anyone (and most of them won't be obessive perfectionists in their eating habits either!), but a basic awareness of what is healthy and what is not, and what foods should be restricted as 'occasional treats' rather than being dietary staples (especially for children) is something that everyone should have, for their own good (and the good of their children, which is obviously even more important).
You should try indirect cooking. It's nearly impossible to burn your food, and it will turn out perfect every time. Unless you undercook it of course. All you have to do is keep the coals lit. Your rudimentary pallet will love you for it. You'll realize you're filling your stomach with swill.
I was very disappointed in those children. It's socially irresponsible to teach children that's okay. If I'm not mistaken, America's health care costs were around $3 trillion last year. 1 in 3 Americans are obese. That's not a disease. That's a choice. As a moral society, we owe it to our children to teach them responsible health. Near everything is fine in moderation, but I don't see much emphasis on moderation by a great number of people.
The french fries are the only thing I can eat on the menu without getting nauseous halfway through my meal. Still, they are a haven for chemicals and everything bad for you. http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/112557/wendys-natural-cut-fries-bnet
Try 5 Guys fries. Freshly cut Idaho potatoes, cut right in the store, never frozen and fried in peanut oil. Warning,,,,,they taste like potatoes, so it will take a bit to wean off the chemical flavorings of McD's. And 5 Guys burgers are also fresh made in the store. Fast Food that is food.
actually GROUND meat of any kind is the most dangerous...you are usually safe to eat steaks, roasts, etc...even rare, but never, ever eat rare burgers. That's just begging for some stomach upset or worse.
I've got to hand it to McDonald's. They're an inventive lot. Using ground up pig anuses and genitalia slathered in barbecue sauce and calling it a sandwich.
Jamie Oliver clearly revealed that the liberals that govern Ca and LA are not in any way concerned with the true well being of the poor. They're interested in the "image" of caring, but not any actual caring. If they really cared, they'd not only agree with Oliver, they would prosecute the people delivering the poison to the kids. Most likely the powers that be in LA are getting kick backs from the purveyors of poison, so Oliver NEVER had any chance against graft and corruption.
SM; I was just going to let it go but you completely contradicted yourself in the same post. Although people can eat just about anything, eventually it will take it's toll. I'm convinced that about 90% of the medical problems people in their 40-50's have is directly related to the poisons, they have been putting into their bodies and calling it food, and the poor eating habits they learned at a relatively early age. Our biggest health problems stem from the pathetic diets we consider to be normal, not just excessive use of tobacco and alcohol.
I have always loved the McRib even after I found out what it is.made of. Americans are very spoiled. It is fairly common to eart animal innards almost every where else in the world. Hot dogs and sausage are not really any worse than the McRib.
McRibs, hot dogs, lunch meats, ALL far into the category know as Mystery Meat. In the military, hot dogs were called 'tube steaks,' and other names that wouldn't make it through the language filter.
I don't necessarlily object to the INNARDS. It the OUTTARDS that really gross me out! Nose, toes, feet, tail, skin, eyes, ears, lips, anus opening, testicle skin, etc. The goodies that laid in feces all day. Along with the skin infections, pimples, cysts, etc.
People have been eating nasty stuff for millennia. Ever hear of blood pudding? Its not the innards and bones that bad its the artificial stuff.
