Ou est le chat? Le chat est sur le table. - - - Updated - - - They deserved to win as they scored a goal and France did not. Who do you believe deserved to win the tournament?
Difficult question. Quite a poor tournament if you ask me. Would've been nice if Iceland or Wales could've taken it. But, I don't really care. Glad it is over. Now we can look forward to the league season.
Yep, very poor tournament. Not many classic games. It is the year of the team not the individual. Leicester, Atletico, Iceland, Wales, Portugal. When I was a kid I used to play more football on the street than I did for my club. That just doesn't happen anymore. The small skillful and creative players are being bypassed at age 9/10 for the bigger and fitter kids who will win games for aspiring coaches at youth level. The weird thing is that not many of this Portugal team would have made it into Portugal's losing Euro 2004 final team.
Seems so. Although no longer is Atleti "just anyone" but actually proven to be one of Europe's greats for about five years now. Yeah. Portugal of the 00's is one of my favourite NT:s ever...Probably only Ronnie (who of course was in the 04 squad) and Pepe would make it to that squad.
Re Atletico, I was more thinking more of a strong organised squad vs individual genius of, say, Real or Barca. Both styles are effective, but one is definitely more creative and thus better to watch. I love Atletico, I love the club and their history. But they grind out results as opposed to winning with flair, such as the week in week out beauty of Iniesta, Neymar, Messi and Suarez, for example.
Nooon pourquoi ?? You've gotta hand it to Eder; that was a beautiful goal. And Portugal just managed to pull everything out the bag during extra time, while France just seemed to get more and more tired out. Portugal had some of the strongest defence I've seen all tournament. It's funny how everyone seems to think of them as a one-man team when teamwork was one of their biggest strengths during this game. No one would've bet on them winning without Ronaldo, on a goal scored by a usually unremarkable player...but they did it! This has generally not been the best tournament, though. And I think it says something when a team which only scraped through the group stages managed to win. I think we should go back to starting the tournament with 16 teams, and not allow draws in the group stage.

I have racist uncles and when I was a kid they used to call soccer "wogball". It was only really Italians, Greeks and Lebanese that played soccer in Australia when I was growing up and racist Australia used to call Greeks, Italians and Lebanese people wogs. I do not think it is good to call soccer wogball but I do not like it. Soccer is very boring in my opinion and soft. My idea of football is Rugby League.
"Wogball" LOL You funny Australians. Don't understand why they'd put down Greeks and Italians tho, as they're also European, just like the Australians are from descent.
Under the White Australia Policy a Southern European like an Italian or Greek was considered to be a semi-coloured alien and undesirable. Australia only wanted British stock under the white Australia policy - we didn't even really want Germans - they don't even speak English - but we didn't call then semi-coloured - only the Southern Europeans. And if you look at Greeks and Italians they look a lot more like a Lebanese person than a Germanic white Teuton. God knows where Greeks came from before they ended up in Greece but my guess is not from Northern Europe. But like I said I haven't heard anyone use the term wogball since I was a child and in modern Australia there is really no racism against Italians or Greeks. It is funny though because if you watch Austrlain media from about the 90s back the Greek stereotypes are almost identical to modern Muslim stereotyping. You know how Greeks are protective of their daughters and they don't fit with progressive western society? It is funny. I have no problem with Southern European . Actually one of my favourite movies growing up was The Heartbreak Kid with Alex Dimetriates and Claudia Karven. It is an Australian movie about a Greek highschool kid that starts having sex with his hot female Greek teacher that is getting ready to marry her Greek fiance. It is very romantic. At the end Nick (Greek kid) goes off to try to realize his soccer dreams and the chick goes off to America I think to teach - and they agree to meet again in one year. I like to think that they both showed up. I also used to like Heartbreak High which was a highschool drama that span off from the success of the Heartbreak Kid movie - it had Nick in it but the storyline was different and it was as if Claudia Karvan had never existed - but it was still a good show. It was set in Western Sydney and was all urban and gritty. And very multicultural. My favorite character was Con - Nicks Greek friend and cousin. One of my sisters has a Greek fiance. He seems like a good guy. And a catch. Edit - I also liked the movie Looking for Alibrandi which is an Austrlain book and movie about a female Greek Australian highschool student. Pia Miranda is really hot in my opinion. I am not racist. The term wogball is a pretty funny term though you have to admit. If Italians called Rugby League 'Skippy-ball' or something I would pay it.
Heartbreak High was a much better show than Beverly Hills 90210. The racist thinking that was around when my uncles were young was carry on from the White Australia Policy - but that really isn't present in modern Australia. Shows like Heartbreak High helped probably but the reality is that Australia is the most multicultural nation on earth and the show was just depicting reality. Australia is proof that multiculturalism works - but it is a process and you can't just expect it to work overnight. My fathers side is from Bankstown ( The Area ) which isn't very west but full of Lebanese. I have no real problem with soccer and my favorite team are the Western Sydney Wanderers. My family culture has many parallels with Lebanese, Greeks and Italians from Western Sydney. I am not racist. One of my favourite Rugby League players was Hazim El Mazri. He played for NSW and I am glad he did.
Was Heartbreak Kid the film in which Alex Dimetriades gets his junk out? Hold on, no it can't be. The one I'm thinking about was about a gay man (Alex). Daring stuff, for it's time. Gritty.
I haven't seen it. I am not gay. But I have no problem with gays. I like Alex Dimetriates. And I do think he is a good looking guy even though I am not gay. Edit - I watched the J Edgar Hoover movie the other night and the gay stuff annoyed me because it was so tokenistic and hostile. Apparently the guy that wrote the movie wrote Broke back Mountain. What the hell is Clint Eastwoods problem? The FBI said Hoover was not gay for sure and why does it matter anyway? The man did so many great things and I do not see what being gay had to do with it.
I like soccer. My son played it at a high level for 9 years. But I prefer American sports of football, baseball, and basketball. College football is the best when it's your school playing on national TV.
I support Manchester United and even other teams but almost Manchester United. Best season with 4-5-1 formation since Sir Alex leaving a-team 2013. But when season is over in top 4 and Uefa CL again after four season outside top 4 and José Mourinho should play 4-3-3 how is worse but is worth the effort with this that Sir Alex had never been in tactics but José Mourinho love to play 4-3-3 in Chelsea. This I expect me from José Mourinho for all next season. Swedish superstar Zlatan leave a-team and Martial-Rooney-Rashford in 3 position on top. 2-3 new central midfielders then one or two new CB one in world class. Ordinary eleven one CB. Maybe Hummels from Germany. Pogba and maybe Valencia left in central midfielder. 1 more central midfielder I can not remember just now. Germanys form player last eleven has plays over in Manchester United. I can not remember his difficult name in Germany. French central midfielder leave for Leicester City. Spanish star leave Mata then a more spanish stay some central midfielder and Jesse Lingard long time pro season plays he will stay. Can play winger in forward position. In Middle but Utd's answer are top 3 every season. José Mourinho do best team for 4-3-3 formation.
José Mourinho has proven himself to be a terrible coach. He has not renewed any of his ideas for nearly 15 years now and when things do not go his way he loses it and starts pointing fingers. This became evident with Chelsea last season, when things do not go his way, he cannot turn it around. Terrible coach. Terrible person.
Soccer's World Cup 2018's. Italy will win after penalty. Versus Brazil or Belgium. Fine penalty gold scorer Balotelli. 5-3 to Italy. 4-2 in penalty lineups.
In my younger days yes, but nowadays it bores me unless there's a riot going on inside or outside the ground like in the good old days.. PS- I had a trial for Leicester City FC in England when I was 21, our team of triallists versus another team of triallists on the Belvoir Rd training ground. Our team won 4-2 and I -ahem- hit the back of the net twice, then I went home to wait for the sign-up papers to arrive.. That was many years ago and I'm still waiting...
I surely do like football and in the times of my childhood I kinda "opened" David Beckham. I mean I saw him playing on TV when noone outside of England knew him or ever heard of him and I said myself: "This guy will be a star". And with the time his name started getting into the news and he became a real star.
One gang my Town has trying to Control my soccer like and it is now thirdteen years gang lords has rules against soccer fans and they are unlikely like ICE hockey more. But europeans likely soccer more. Gangs are unlucky with ICE hockey....
