I honestly don't know what it means to "relax", other than in the purely mechanical sense of un-flexing a muscle or reducing the tension on a rope. I'm goal oriented by nature and a workaholic. I'm not proud of it. It's terrible. But it's the way I am. When I see someone "relaxing" in a hammock and drinking a daiquiri, I bust out laughing, because it's just funny. I cannot imagine lying in a hammock while drinking a daiquiri. Not even for 3 minutes. Unless I accidentally fell asleep. I'm sure it must be great, because hammock occupants are always smiling with their stupid daiquiris, but I seriously don't see how. Ants and bees don't relax. Neither do hummingbirds, though I imagine they must perch on occasion. Why must I relax? If working were deadly, I'd have died 25 years ago. So, do you relax? How? And how is it a good thing? Are you really capable of forgetting your troubles as you lie in a hammock drinking a daiquiri?
Well, relaxing is more taking a break from some aspect of other activities you enjoy or must do. So I go weightlift in part to "relax" my mind, but it's not relaxing for my body at all. I will play computer games to relax my body, but it's not relaxing for my mind at all. Sometimes, I will fully relax by eating and watching a nature documentary. But yeah if I'm not eating watching TV is generally not stimulating enough. If I'm that tired, it's time for bed. I'm definitely not a workaholic, but I get bored pretty easily with doing nothing or watching television.
I generally find working on my garden or landscaping relaxing even if it is physical labor. I think because it tends to be mindless work alone that I enjoy it. Funny you talk about the hammock. I realized "Hey I never just sit out here and enjoy it because I have nowhere to sit". 2 garden benches, two tables, and 8 chairs later and I still just never sit around in the yard. Maybe once or twice a month for 3-5 minutes at a time, but that usually ends with me going to home depot or wherever to buy something else. Not long ago I saw one of those hammocks on a stand and thought about it awhile and said nope, wouldn't use it either.
I've been doing a lot of relaxing lately. Mainly a consisted of sitting in bed healing up from an ankle surgery. I do like to Fossil hunt and fish and drink beer and shoot any of my various air guns, of which I have a growing collection. I do like to shoot the cap and ball 44 muzzleloading revolver but only about once a year because it is a real pain in the ass to clean and here lately I can't find number 11 percussion caps anywhere so I'm sitting on what I have
