The real reason, not one invented by pro-lifers, is the belief in choice, consent, and being able to decide who or what uses your body, something pro-lifers seem to throw out of the window when it comes to abortion - nothing else of course JUST abortion. Pro-lifers are mostly conservative people who scream and shout about increased state involvement in THEIR lives but are more than content to allow the state to intrude into the lives of pregnant women .. double standard.
I'll just pick up on this one point for now, you do realise that there are numerous women who have had absolutely no indication that they were pregnant don't you? and neither does a woman have ANY obligation to "determine whether or not she's gotten pregnant for months on end."
I am against abortion but think it should be legal for the first 20 weeks because enforcing the ban will make things worse as the drug war has shown us. No public money for abortion but contraception should be widely available. Women who say it's my body and the government has no right to force me to have a baby have no right to force anti-abortion taxpayers to subsidize their choice.
WHERE, WHO, HOW are taxpayers subsidizing abortions.....????? Answer, since you don't know: No one anywhere is subsidizing abortions with their taxes...
"As best I can determine, taxpayers subsidize roughly 24% of all abortion costs in the U.S. with 6.6% borne by federal taxpayers and the remaining 17.4% picked up by state taxpayers. If we apply the 24% figure to the total number of abortions, this is equivalent to taxpayers paying the full cost of 250,000 abortions a year, with about 70,000 financed by federal taxpayers and 180,000 financed by state taxpayers" Currently, there are 17 states that fund all or most medically necessary abortions. It’s worth noting that 13 of these states are doing so under a court order (AK, AZ, CA, CT, IL, MA, MN, MT, NJ, NM, OR, VT, WV) and only 4 are doing so voluntarily, i.e., the result of explicit state legislation (HI, MD, NY, WA). •In 2010, states financed 181,000 abortion procedures through Medicaid, virtually all occurring in the 17 states that use their own funds for this purpose http://www.forbes.com/sites/theapot...n-taxpayers-paying-for-abortion/#5f0d169d7709
Ya, abortions performed because the life/health of the woman was in jeopardy....they weren't elective abortions. However even if taxpayers had to pay for all abortions it would make my day. YOU may be against taxpayers paying for abortions but I'm not
