They can't even get the name of the law right....it's the 'Brady handgun violence prevention act' not gun control act.
Tick tock, still waiting for a gun lobby type to refer to the empirical evidence. Perhaps its an American specific shyness? Let's not forget that the available econometric evidence is international in nature. Here's another example chosen randomly: Leigh and Neill (2010, Do gun buybacks save lives? Evidence from panel data, American Law and Economics Review, Vol 12, pp 509-557). And here's the summary: In 1997, Australia implemented a gun buyback program that reduced the stock of firearms by around one-fifth (and nearly halved the number of gun-owning house-holds). Using differences across states, we test whether the reduction in firearms availability affected homicide and suicide rates. We find that the buyback led to a drop in the firearm suicide rates of almost 80%, with no significant effect on non-firearm death rates. The effect on firearm homicides is of similar magnitude but is less precise. The results are robust to a variety of specification checks and to instrumenting the state-level buyback rate
Grasping at straws. The overall peaking of crime trends and reduction in the mid 1990's is due to the fact that the public began calling for harsher punishments. Three Strikes Laws were passed in various states during this time. With more repeat violent felons being locked away, crime figures began to fall. To fabricate a study that does not take these factors into effect is dishonest. The goal of all politaically motivated psuedo-scientists is to make the data match the agenda. Public adminstrators are politicians, or on their payroll. If these hacks wanted to do something really useful, then have them take all the high crime areas in the US (all urban) and plot the arrest rates for violent crimes with the severity of the convictions. Any criminal knows that a broken justice system will allow him to commit his crimes more effectively. They are empowered by liberal judges and DA's who will plea bargin, reduce or throw out convictions. Left-leaning residents do not like convicting their own. This is why there will be 50 to 100 murders each year in medium sized urban hell hole, yet only have few or no murders in a similar sized suburban county right next to it. Also why is crime rate going down still with evil weapons like AR rifles and high capacity handguns growing more popular since the demise of the idiotic Brady Bill?
How many (number not rate or percentage) prior suicides by firearms and non-firearms to the next year? Oh, by the way;
You'd have a point if I was presenting raw data. I'm not. I'm referring to an econometric study. It naturally includes controls for changes in punishment (summed up in the analysis through deterrence theory). That includes the number of police officers in thousands per million households and the number of prisoners in thousands per million households
Two men forced their way into a home early one afternoon and began to assault the resident. During the scuffle, the resident managed to pull a handgun from his pocket and fire it multiple times. Both men fled the scene on foot. The body of Jacob Clark was found a short distance from the residence; he had suffered a single gunshot to the chest. The second alleged intruder, Joey Pugh, 18, was not injured. He was caught soon after the incident, arrested and charged with aggravated burglary. One already provided, but let's hope it sparks a gun lobby type to actually refer to the empirical evidence: Kwon and Baack (2005, The Effectiveness of Legislation Controlling Gun Usage, American Journal of Economics & Sociology, Vol 64 Issue 2, pp 533-547) who say "[t]he results show that comprehensive gun control legislation indeed lowers the number of gun-related deaths anywhere between one to almost six per 100,000 individuals in those states that have the most extreme gun-related legislation".

Despite my best efforts, the gun lobby herd has failed to deliver. I can't be bothered with an ideology incapable of making an evidence-based rationality. Its as repugnant as other right wing authoritarian traits.
I caught you making up one study, and the other you provided nobody can access. you've lost by default, because you can't back up your tripe.
Ayuh,... In this forum, I'm quite sure that the general consensus is that Yer position has NOTHIN' to do with Reality.... I live in the streets,.... I can Smell, Reality... The best you might do, is to define the word....
Ayuh,... The pot callin' the kettle black,..... Get out, 'n live life,.... Find out the Reality that you thought was,.... Ain't.... Life isn't lived on a piece of paper.... You know absolutely Nothin' of which you speak....
That will involve, on this subject, a literature review of the available empirical evidence. Avoiding tabloidism and spurious relationship is darn obvious
Ayuh,.... The irony she can't see in her own posts, 'n the humor lost... Truly lost in the paper clouds I guess,....
Reiver's whole thrust is the economic impact (and I can show another study using empirical data that says it is minimal but why bother) so what economic impact would it make by shutting down all the US gun manufacturers?
Empirical data is gathered using obsevation or experience. I shared several accounts of experiences. There may be gun related deaths that are imperative to take place. Wouldn't want those included in a study, would taint the findings
