It's all over bar the shouting! Yep, President Donald Trump! What does this mean for Australia? The negative sentiment was fairly prevalent across Australian media and politics.

I guess it is a case of let's sit back and wait and see what the damage will be! Of course we are all hoping that all the fear factoring is simply just that and that the world won't end with all out war.

My thought is Australia will be left on the outer and treated as one of the enemy. I guess there will be lots of brown nosing!

I'm not clear why you think there would be any big change in US Australian relations.

I agree, there is a lot of things for him to do, but there is a lot of checks and balances etc.

Thankfully the TPP will most likely be abandoned, as it fly's in the face of what he has been saying.

This is a protest by Americans at large, and long overdue. Like Australians, they are getting sick and tired of being told what to think, what to say and how to say it, how to act, and how to feel. This election has shown that this is not a left or a right thing, this political correct bullsh!t affects everyone, and quite frankly I think people are sick of it. People are being told their IQ needs to be tested because they believe something that the self proclaimed society police don't agree with. People have had enough when they see billions of dollars pouring out of government toward countries and people who do not contribute a brass razoo to either the local or the countries economy, yet veterans and aged pensioners go without meals and support, even though they laid their lives down and payed taxes all their lives. The people are sick and tired of idiots telling them what is good for them, then shafting them and lining their own pockets.

I also think Syria was a major hurdle for Clinton. Her stance may be at odds with a war weary and economically suffering people. Last thing they want is a tiff with Putin after a long running middle east adventure.

Love him or hate him, Trump has certainly turned a mundane election campaign into a headline laden television spectacle.

A win for freedom of choice?

Trump copped a hammering in Australia, which basically came from both sides of politics and was played out in the media. He was depicted as an idiot and that won't go down well. Maybe an enemy is a bit strong but based on what we know, favours are only forthcoming to those who kiss his assssss!

It was obviously a vote against Hillary more so than a vote for Trump but that's the risk. I hope it's a good one for Americas sake, but I predict many countries will look to stronger ties with China and China will take advantage of that based on Trumps attitudes to the rest of the world!

I have no problem with political correctness! We will see how unbridled free speech goes Slippery, if the American people embrace the free say whatever you like attitude demonstrated by Trump! Men will be going around grabbing women's poosies, which will be the next step to giving up PC!

    The sky is falling!!!!

TV you are doing a Tony Abbott impersonation. lol.

I think if Sanders was the Democratic nominee, we would be seeing a different result. Clinton represents everything they are sick of. Woman of two mouths, one screaming blue murder, and the other spraying greasy words to corporate America. This is why the unions and working class America left the Democrats in droves. Unlike Australia they only had two choices, unfortunately for some it happens to be the Donald. Our protest votes were dispersed between marginal parties and basically rendering the result useless. The USA result may have either more dire effect or perhaps his persistent lip flapping about employment and manufacturing may just have a very positive effect.

Internationally however I may just shut my eyes!

Yes but that's not unusual. The entire world learned to hate Trump the moment he declared his candidacy for President, so it's not just Australia. However if Australia feels they would be better off being a satrapy of China, you're certainly welcome. Trump has tweeted mean things after all, and that's not a habit of the Chinese leadership.

If the TPP is dumped then good thing. The Coalition stuffed us right up on that. As far as other things go, we are a very small player in an outlying region and we're not very important to the US. True we have a few bases but I don't think anything will happen with those. Trump will not be thinking of Aus much at all. He really has no reason to do so. ANZUS is a thing though, will be bad for us if he rips it up. I don't think he will though - no point in it.

I don't think the world hated when he initially entered. The world disliked/hated him for what he was saying and doing. He was quite popular the world over due mainly to The Apprentice.
The Western World looked at America as the benchmark. Ah well, hopefully it all works out!

It's scary stuff and people are worried about what Trump means to the world. The next few months will be telling.

He traded that Apprentice popularity the moment he declared his candidacy. All the world hates whoever the Republican candidate is, and a Republican candidate that wants to pull back on military adventurism and have trade rules that benefit his own country? Literally Hitler.

Where do I start…. The election of Donald Trump is a threat to our Trade agreements, one of the reasons he was elected was to get rid of the North American Free Trade Agreement. There are also others like the proposed Trans Pacific Partnership of 12 nations, APEC… more.

He has been very vocal about Muslims, therefore his relationship with the Muslim world is bound to be much more strained than the current administration, this will obviously affect Australia.

It’s in Australia’s best interest for America to keep talking to China… what is his relationship with China going to be like?

He keeps saying he’s going to drain the swamp in Washington, is he going to sack most of the established government employees with ties and connections to other countries or was this just talk?

Trump is now hostage to various forces. The electorate isn't one of them.

A lot of politicians go to Washington to drain the swamp, only to find it is their personal hot tub.

I have been to the US several times,
and I hope no one will be offended here, but for an in part uneducated nation (sorry for being frank) Americans have voted in a guy who reflects their inner ethics and values.
A sad day for the world. However, maybe Trump has a side I don't know of, and things won't be as bad.....
What it means for Australia, I really don't know.
    Maybe time to look east.
But our rectum crawlers, both Labor and Libs, won't do that....
    Cheers

No let's look inward, we have a wealth of treasures, climate, land, resources, money and brains.

There is a few million people out there, good people, hard working people, smart people all looking for a good country.

With thought, logic, leadership and the support of the people we can change Australia, change the world I believe.

The only thing we need from the past is the experience, to know what is wrong. What we need and the events of the world is showing this, there is something wrong.

We can keep recycling older versions of governing, we can go back try again, we can patch the system up or we can move into the 21st century.

We need something new, something different, we need to start it or forever follow

    LRL,
I agree, we need something new.
But Trump doesn't fit my picture.
    And Turnbull is also disappointing.
We will never question our capitalism, with no sustainability or happiness in mind.
It is all about greed and power.
    Trump fits perfectly well.....

One thing that particularly concerns me… (as if the trade agreements aren’t enough) is that a Trump presidency is likely to turn more Muslims to extremism, with his heavy handed approach.

Will a Trump presidency increase home grown terrorism acts not only in the US but also other western countries like Australia?

Are we going to see an escalation of the same US middle eastern policy that led to the Syrian refugee crisis in the first place (under George Bush 2) resulting in more terrorism and more refugees
