Actually, he's not far off the mark. He represents what had become of the Republican Party during the Dubya years. The party has since changed and he hasn't quite caught up. Neoconservatism is old and busted. The new hotness is fiscal conservatism and limited government.
You make a very good point. I'd argue though that given the cradle to grave indoctrination people get these days it's understandable if many people shy away from politics or any issues that affect them that aren't immediately obvious. Critical thinking is discouraged in schools where learning by rote and sitting still is considered more important. Then you have the TV which is waiting for them after school to keep them distracted and stupid. Movies and TV shows discourage thinking and promote sporting prowess instead and anyone who shows intelligence is a nerd. Stupidity is glorified with shows such as the Simpsons or Family Guy.The ads telling them how they must consume and how having the latest gadget makes them so cool.
Your points are outright laughable. If anything, Ron Paul is probably more American than you or me. First off, how will stopping conflict decrease safety? Conflict causes death and in my opinion death is the greatest threat to safety. Why is it that we are the only country in the world that has to try and police the world to ensure safety? Bringing our troops home will increase our defense at home and decrease death rates amongst our troops. He wants your kids to do drugs? Really? I was under the impression that Ron Paul didn't like drugs but despite how much he dislikes them he dislikes the drug war more as it has caused more deaths than drugs. You say he "wants to grant it as a freedom under the constitution"? No, he wants people to realize that if you are going to protect the people's liberty and freedom to choose their religion, you have to apply that to any other controversial choices as well as long as they do not infringe upon the rights of others. You cannot say you are an advocate of liberty if you do not support liberty across the board. It is the government's job to protect us from outside threats. It is not the government's job to strip us of all responsibility and protect us from ourselves. On the matter of marriage. He himself has stated that his standards for marriage are that it should be between one man and one woman, but he does NOT believe that such standards should be imposed on everyone else. To do so would also advocate imposing other standards of living on everyone, such as religion which is clearly protected in the constitution. "This is a nation founded under God we must keep that in mind when we vote." Are you aware that Ron Paul is a devout Christian? Although he doesn't use that fact to attempt the further his political campaign, unlike Rick Perry.
Ron Paul seems like he has integrity and honesty when it comes to his stance and sticking to it. It is definitely refreshing to see from a politician. What impresses me as the poster above me said is that the man is a Christian but is willing to see the practicality of loosening drug and marriage laws for the sake of liberty. I would feel comfortable knowing that such a man wouldn't shove his religion down everyone's throats or use it for political gain. It's too bad most individuals need fake soundbites and tired old talking points to feel good about a candidate (Perry).
Really? America "can afford" to fund the war? How? Do you want to tell me I can't do drugs or be gay? Who are you? God. I thought we were a nation under God. Does Ron want me to do drugs? I am a big fan of his, so if he really said this, I need to hoof it down to Mexico and buy me some crack. Let's cancel all health and social benefits to go over seas and kill more Muslims. God would definitely want that I think. I believe it's one of the first things he told the ancients to do after their mother ate an apple. I hope this post was a joke.
Ohhhhh... Ok, I didn't realize that God was in charge of national defense! We better give him more tax money so he can prevent another 9/11
Well that would explain why Jews were treated so badly in Muslim areas and so well in Christian areas in the middle ages. Oh wait, the opposite was true...
