Gotta love our leaders fighting these important battles.

    https://www.foxbusiness.com/politic...ndwich-shop-monopoly-probe-subway-acquisition

Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., took to X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday to applaud a federal antitrust probe focused on the potential acquisition of sandwich giant Subway.

Subway announced in late August that it reached an agreement to sell the family-owned sandwich chain to private equity firm Roark Capital in a deal reportedly worth more than $9 billion. The firm owns sandwich shops such as Jimmy John’s, Arby’s, McAlister’s Deli and Schlotzky’s.

The private equity firm’s holdings prompted the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to launch a probe earlier this month to examine whether the deal gives the company a monopoly over sandwich shops and other brands in the fast-food industry, according to a report by Politico.

"We don’t need another private equity deal that could lead to higher food prices for consumers," Warren wrote on X. "The FTC is right to investigate whether the purchase of Subway by the same firm that owns Jimmy John’s and McAlister’s Deli creates a sandwich shop monopoly."

Because I want to see Congress focus on things like the 33 Trillion debt, making Social Security sustainable for the coming decades, controling the US border, and that sort of thing. And "pro-monopoly"? Please. Can one actually monopolize making a sandwich?

I’m confident this won’t inhibit their ability to do any of those things. Probably won’t even take as long as it took the republicans to find a new speaker.

What's wrong with her priorities? This is pro-consumer, I thought Trump fans liked pro-consumer policies.

On the other hand: Where is the House GOP laser focus on inflation? Or, are they more busy infighting, voting out their Speaker, and trying to make the US government default?

Imagine her in her office writing the "Maximum Choice in Sandwich Shops" bill. I mean clearly she's concerned with strategically important businesses.

I'm going to say that Warren's investigation of this "sandwich monopoly" issue is not without a point. Maybe this merger should be investigated and stopped.

But all too often those on the Left seem to have blinders on and can only see possible causes of a problem that align with their ideology.

In this case, inflation and rising fast food prices is the problem, and many of those on the Left immediately jump to thinking the cause must be "greedy" corporations and monopolies.

I heard the CEO of McDonalds almost wet himself when he heard the news of the merger. But then he just decided to go to Pizza Hut.

Meh, out of all the things to be outraged/upset about this probably shouldn't even make the top 100. I have no problem with it. I do agree that there are other things that need to be addressed, but multiple things can be addressed at the same time. There's over 400 people in the House and 100 in the Senate...lots of people to address multiple issues. This isn't even an ant hill imo.

She isn’t even doing that. She made one post supporting the government department’s choice to start an investigation.

Its like if your house was on fire and the fire dept showed up and started extinguishing your garden shed first, while your house burned down. Sure, its nice they saved your garden shed, but would you thank them for doing that instead of saving your house?

According to you literally everything is Republican's fault.

Maybe Pocahontas can sell them a native American sandwich recipe? Maybe make it only purchasable with trading wampum?
