ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT OF EMIR OF QATAR

The convoy of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani experienced an accident on its way to the palace Amiri, the last news is that Sheikh was hit in the thigh and eight of his aides were killed.
According to Dawn newspaper of Egypt, the incident occurred in the wake of the interview, which Prince had with the Russian ambassador in the camp, on the outskirts of Doha. While procession was moving it strongly collided with a car apparently driven by the suicide bomber after the sound of bullets were heard at the site. A close associate of the Office Sheikh Khalifa Al Thani, former emir of Qatar, said that the incident resulted in injury of Emir of Qatar in the thigh and does not know the extent of that injury, eight military escorts and a close associate of the Emir of Qatar Hamad Al-Thani died on the spot. It is not yet known who stands behind this incident and what are the motives. And the death of General George Howard accompanying the prince is not yet confirmed by the media.

I agree that this story deserves more attention than it is getting outside of the Emirates. The attack had to have been carried out either by Islamists or a pro-Shia (Iran-leaning) group and it could have far-reaching consequences, especially if the Emir dies or is permanently disabled in some way.

This attack was probably carried out by some of the losing factions in Egypt and/or Libya... or as you say Shia nutcases.

If the Emir dies and I hope he won't, there will be an orderly succession.

Qatar is very successful and prosperous.

Too bad for the Emir, seems like Religion has no morals when Muslims kill Muslims on their own soil. IMO the only ones that would oppose the Emir to join the NATO would be those same people who oppose any Arab nation joining the UN. They will stop at nothing to keep Palestine out of the UN. I highly doubt Libya has the capacity to pull off such an attempt. Their country has a more important crisis to attend to. Hard to believe Kadaffi's arm of power streches that far from his hiding place. And historically Libya has never did Muslim on Muslim crime.

Oh yes, Libya has carried out crimes against other Muslims... He has never been liked in the Arab world.

Khadafi tried to assasinate King Abdullah a couple of years ago.

Qatar is already a member of the UN.

An associate of the Qatari royal family denied a report, published September 4 in the Algerian daily Al-Fajr, that the Qatari Emir has survived a car bomb assassination attempt.

However, a source close to the office of the previous emir (the father of the present emir who was ousted by his son), said that the Emir was wounded in his thigh and that eight of his bodyguards and one of his associates were killed in the explosion. According to Al-Fajr, a media blackout has been imposed on the incident and the perpetrators are unknown.

The liberal website Elaph.com opined that the report on the assassination attempt was meant to be an implicit threat against the Emir, and that his statements to Al-Jazeera on September 4, supporting the revolutions in Syria and Libya, were his firm response to this threat.

Who would do something like that for envy Margot:mrgreen:
You say some really strange things.
More likely it is about Libya and his involvement in the war there.
That old Muslim killing Muslims thing which is against Islam.

I heard today that Algeria has been supplying weapons to Gaddaffi.

    Crazy world!!
Israelis supplying the PKK and Algeria supplying Mad Dog !

Why? Because Qatar is successful.. its economy has grown by 18% this year and the per capita income is around 62K..

That's an indication of good leadership.
