Not for the remote indigenous communities. Have you ANY idea how expensive some of these small sites are for fuel? There are places on the Stuart Highway that are charging $2.70 a litre and Kulgera which is on the NT /Sa border is charging $3.00 a litre which is 80/litre dearer than the capital cities. Bad enough for tourists but that is the ONLY place for the local indigenous people so they are price gouged.

For electric power generation, yes, certainly. Cars are a little bit of a different matter.

I also doubt those indigenous communities could even afford the more expensive price of electric cars.

But yes, theoretically, it might make sense to have some electric-powered small buses to move people around. Australia does have clear skies and lots of sunshine (not true of every country trying to push solar power). Maybe electric powered motorcycles, which might be more within the price range of the persons in those indigenous communities. It's also true that in many of those communities, money is a more important factor than time or convenience.

Some of the reasons that make fuel expensive at those small sites would also apply to electric power charging stations. (Not all, but some)

    Ooo, you're right!

Well, not really. I was working with 3D printing of prototype components with Ford in about 1993. And 4-wheel steering has existed since at least the early 1930s.

See? Nothing new there to waste my time on. That's the difference between someone who only reads about someone else's work and someone who actually does the work.

I dunno if I'd call 3000km in 10 days 'successful'. Thats a 2 or 3 day drive in a gas vehicle. I guess that road is pretty sketchy, but still, 10 days must include a lot of charge-ups only necessary for electric.

No charging it is all solar. These are cars totally running on solar power from panels on the car

ExxonMobil doubles down on fossil fuels with $59.5 billion Pioneer deal
By Aaron Gregg and Evan Halper

ExxonMobil is buying its oil and gas rival Pioneer Natural Resources in a $59.5 billion megadeal that is a bet by the energy giant that the transition away from fossil fuels will play out at a much slower pace than the White House plans.

The all-stock deal, which both companies announced Wednesday, is the biggest merger for the oil company since it acquired Mobil in 1999. It comes as other oil companies are also refocusing their strategies on fossil fuel production, while scaling back their plans for moving into cleaner energy. . . .

Yep! The board of Exxon always has been a load of TWONKS. Meh! The rest of the fossil fuel industry have been investing in alternative energy sourcing for years!

See this is an example of cherry picking - look at only one company and not the entire industry

Interesting. So in US dollars that's somewhere between $6.50 and $7.25 a gallon.

Now currently a barrel of oil is about $80/bbl. A barrel is 42 gallons. That makes the base price of a gallon of oil about $1.90. Add roughly 20 cents to each gallon for distilling (an extremely efficient and low cost form of processing), and a generous 40 cents a gallon to transport the gas to the pumps, and then add a ridiculous $1 a gallon in supposed price gouging profits (just to make sure nobody thinks I'm being soft on everyone involved in the oil business where typical profit margins- read that five times before you start hemorrhaging abuse because you think I said profit- are a really normal 4-6%) and you get a base price for a crooked gallon of gas of $3.50.

That leaves $3-$4.25 still unaccounted for. Where does it go? Easy- taxes.

So the great electric car infrastructure plan takes money from these poor people in the form of taxes and spends it on useless EV infrastructure in order to brag to the clueless about how much good they're doing for them.

If anyone was really concerned about those folks, why don't they just halve the price of fuel by eliminating the taxes?

What? With the torque that an EV has………. Why do you think mining draglines are essentially EVs?

Not in rural Aus. That is what is so burning. The petrol tax is virtually waived for more remote sites - this is pure profit

    From the WaPo link:
"Shell Oil earlier this year quietly put on the back burner what had been one of the industry’s most aggressive blueprints to reduce greenhouse gases. BP, which markets itself as a pioneer in the transition, substantially rolled back its targets for cutting emissions."

Says you - didn’t watch the videos did you? The one with the 120 year old EV is ultra cute! The only new part in it are the batteries :p.
