Whoo, finally got a job! I'm only working 24 hours a week making minimum wage, but I don't care, I got a job! It's been torture these last few years for me having to rely on others and not being able to take care of myself but god it's good to be back in the working field. Hopefully I can get more hours as I become more acquainted with the work and hopefully I'll be able to find a second job to work as well. This thread has no value or intellectual contribution, I just wanted to brag and celebrate......got a job!
Congratulations, man. Everyone starts somewhere and something is better than nothing. Need any more cliches?
I'm good on the cliche's, but thanks. Believe me, I know it isn't much but I am ecstatic to be able to have the opportunity to do it.
Actually it's a glorified secretary position. I got a job at the local radio station and I answer the phones and put people on the air. I also make sure the commercials are set up and played. But to be honest, I guess it could be considered retail since the station is called the Bargain Channel(for those in the Jacksonville, Macclenny, Lake City area). We sell things from other companies at great prices. Something could cost you $400 to $500 dollars at the store, but that same company will put the item on the air and give you a chance to buy it a $100 or even possibly less. So yeah, I guess you could say I'm in retail.
I was going to say, I remember from my retail years in college that this is a really slow time of the year. Your hours will probably pick up at the station too. Remember, after 90 days, demand a 50% raise.
Me and the D.J. were actually talking on break how they don't make as many sales as they used to a few years back. How the economy has even effected the station. The sponsors don't make as many great deals as they used to and not as many people call up and make a purchase like they used to. We made mention how it'll probably turn around during election time and depending on how that goes, things will either pick up indefinitely or continue in the slow pace that it has been going at.
Congrats! I know your excitement. I was out of the workforce for 10+ yrs, BUT it was by choice to be at home until my kids went to school full time. I felt like I had just struck gold when I got my first paycheck, and it had more to do with how it made me feel, not necessarily the money. Why were you unempl'd for so long, if you don't mind me asking?
I wasn't being serious... However my first thought regarding the topic, based solely on the title of the thread, was that the gentlemen was vacationing somewhere. I typically don't associate "enjoyment" with work.
Apparently I have a reputation for being "judgmental." Back to the topic, I'm wondering why the young man, hadn't considered the services? He listed his age as 26. Granted it's not a guarantee these days, what with downsizing personnel. It's an option; 3 years with no work...is a long time.
Even if you were being judgmental, I would still assume you were joking. Even with the cutbacks, it is still fairly easy. Not everyone is cut out for it though. Not a bad thing, some people just hate that lifestyle.
True. It is not for everyone. Testing my memory here, you mentioned your retail job in college... this was an Armani store? in Boston? Someone gave you tickets to the Patriots... I've never worked retail. My first job was as a gas station/car wash attendant...back in the day when people didn't pump their own gas. My first day on the job, I was closing the car wash portion of the station and a young woman, probably my age at the time, pulls up in a car decorated in the white paint folks use to say stuff like "Seniors Rule" or some other crapola. Well, as I say, the car wash was closed...I proceed to tell her this and she bats her eyes trying to use her feminine charms to convince me to allow one more car through the wash. I repeated to her...ma'am, the car wash is closed. Out comes a plethora of F-bombs, (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s...and something about where I should stick it. Welcome to the wonderful World of Customer service...first job, first day on the job. True story.
LMAO. I think that is supposed to be posted in the whore thread. My retail experience is not that interesting. Mostly because it was short, but we did have a guy that managed the woman's department at Armani. He was like 6'5" and built like a cornerback. Gayest dude ever (no, I have no problem with that). He carried a purse, walked like RuPaul, and was a pretentious (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*). Hilarious. He also wore dark glasses because he had a lazy eye. Every day was like that SNL skit where they work in that high-end store, folding clothes perfectly.
