I've been hearing about this for awhile and it's kind of boggled me. "Net neutrality" and "fair internet access" and all of this other nonsensical gibberish that feels like typical political doublespeak.

What I'm really hoping is that some of the more knowledgeable members of this forum might clarify a few things for me.

    http://conservative-headlines.com/2015/02/extreme-left-spending-nearly-200-million-for-net-neutrality/

The Bloomberg video is on the link.

As far as I can tell, this is a way for government to get their foot in the door. I don't know if there will be any outright censorship or sort of control structure in the bill because we can't look at it. Sounds like Obamacare all over again.

I'm freaked out by this, because if the government is able to change the language (public utility?) on internet access, so they can eventually control the internet, that's what's going to happen. Open the door for more government involvement and somewhere down the road it'll happen. It always does.

It reminds me a little of Paul Warburg and the Federal Reserve Act. All that matters is getting the bill passed and then they amend it later.

Thoughts? Advice? Suggestions? I've already called the FCC, with no luck yet, but I don't know what else to do. :frown:

Internet should be public utility. That is all. US far behind other developed countries in the ability of people to have cheap internet. It should be fixed.

Is our internet really that expensive?

Besides, what strings are going to be attached. Obama had over 300 regulations that were going to be enforced. We don't even know what they are.

    http://news.yahoo.com/fcc-approves-net-neutrality-rules-200800945.html;_ylt=A0LEVx_YuO9UfqAAlBBXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEza2t0ajNjBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDVklQNTY0XzEEc2VjA3Nj

And we don't even have 30 days to debate on it. Jesus, we have no idea what just really got passed.

Whenever a bill or a regulation is passed without us (the public) being able to examine it, that really bugs me.

Actually you missed a rather epic public battle that I'm sure will prompt a book or two, if not a few theses.

It is expensive and slow. For instance, in Helsinki, Finland you can walk on the street and call Skype for free using public internet. That is how it works in most of Europe.
I understand that Obama wants to attach string, but republicans cannot come up with anything better. That is a shame.

We are democracy, if you do not like what government do then express yourself.
But what I do not like is when private cartels (corporate government) limit my freedom.

It's just another scam like obama care.

Just like obama care, obama didn't want us to know the facts until after it passed.

Remember when nancy pelosi said we would have to pass it to see what's in it?

Even after gruber tells the liberals how stupid they were to go for obama care,

they pull their pants down and ask for more.

Who in their right mind would have ever believed that the American people could be this stupid?

"Net neutrality" is just another power grab by this lawless administration.

Their ultimate goal is censorship and taxes.

There will be many unforeseen negatives for the consumer and you probably won't be allowed

to pay for faster or better service.

The United States has a govt. based on the fusion of big business and big govt. Obama is a crony capitalist who wants to increase the power of the govt. A powerful govt. produces as much evil as good. Favored corporations will receive exemptions from the new rules to be issued by the FCC. That's how big govt/big business work...hand in hand.
