It's because the Royals have to go by certain rules and are expected to do so.

Sure. And the British people are entitled to their own opinion. Right?

That just isn't true. If they'd asked to be left alone, New Zealanders would have left them alone. If anyone was going to hound them there, it would have been foreign press, and since NZ closed borders in March 2020, they'd still be reaping the benefits of that privacy.

More importantly, they chose LOS ANGELES. America is a big country. Pretty sure there are huge swathes of it which would allow for some serious privacy. They can't claim to want to be left alone when they choose the one place which will guarantee they never are. What they really mean is that they want loads of attention, but only if it's positive. When it's not positive they'll cry about the lack of privacy in LA/America. When it's positive they'll sing the praises of LA/America.

Why can't you fault them? It was an outrageous thing to do. Trashy as hell.

The right response was to do and say absolutely nothing. They would have garnered far more respect and sympathy had they behaved in a dignified fashion. Now they just look guilty (and trashy, and narcissistic, and petulant).

Do you actually think our friend has the power to tell people what to do?

    Weird.

They haven't chosen freedom .. they've chosen a high profile life in the full and limiting glare of the public spotlight.

So now you think women are necessarily blameless, just because they're women?

Come on now, isn't it time to stop pretending that we have that kind of power?

This is about SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. Yes, you can blow every cent you have on good times and overpriced high maintenance properties if you like, but in choosing to do that (especially as a parent), you are choosing to make yourself and your children potential liabilities. You would rather have your good times, than protect yourself, your loved ones, and the tax payer from the fallout of your decisions.

She KNEW going in. It was an arranged marriage. An elevation in rank and wealth for her and her family, in exchange for her virginity and aristocratic heritage.

You talk about this as though all relationships are teen romances. Very very strange, to say the least.

Indeed. But they cannot then claim to want privacy and expect to be respected.

They made themselves free to make that choice. ;)

I know the right hates choice, but I'm all about freedom.

We have no way of knowing if she was all that "unfree". It seems a lot more about being a non conformist. She did not want to conform to the traditions and rules /protocols. that are part of Royal life.

Others who have married into the Royal family....bot ladies and gents seem to have adapted quite wall. Maybe she did not like living in the UK ......and missed her California lifestyle. There had to be some culture shock / adjustment. We can only speculate ;-).

Their so called freedom might be determined by the amount of money they are able to bring in. They have a lifestyle to s support.

Surely you don't think those two crazy kids had an eyes-meet-across-a-room moment, and fell into a deep swoon of undying romantic passion? Please say you're not that silly.

I'm not a rightist. And I'm a liberal. I'm also an adult, and adults make their own beds.

She chose Royalty, but then decided it was too icky and demanding so she bailed - and in so doing compromised everyone around her.

The Royals should have their say. Don't you think?

When choosing a mate, I hope that a person would look for red flags and avoid toxic people. For example, if you are a woman looking for a mate and you fall in love with a guy who is great in bed and has a wonderful personality, but does owe 2 of his ex wives back child support and is chronically unemployed? How about if he has done time for spouse beating? When do you say, "to heck with my feelings: I'm not insane."

I guess they have rules they have to abide by and that is expected of them.

Not so much rules as conventions. The Monarch is prohibited from making her political opinions known which is one of the reasons she makes such a good head of state.

Oh Yes! You're right about that. The Royals aren't allowed to voice out Politics in the U.K.
