Former Vice President Mike Pence is dropping his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, ending his campaign for the White House after struggling to raise money and gain traction in the polls.

“After much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to suspend my campaign for president effective today,” Pence said at the Republican Jewish Coalition gathering in Las Vegas. “We always knew this would be an uphill battle, but I have no regrets,” he said.

Couldn't happen to a more boring guy...

Now he can assume his rightful position... On his knees to his former boss.... He'll be much happier there...

Which "top" candidate will go next? Can't see Dougie Burgum hanging around much past Pence (pun intended)

    It's official, Mikey is out!

Mike Pence suspends his struggling 2024 campaign

    snip

Mike Pence announced on Saturday at the Republican Jewish Coalition gathering in Las Vegas that he was suspending his campaign and exiting the race for the GOP nomination.

He received a standing ovation from the influential donors in a room of more than 1000 people
on Saturday as he said he had concluded that it “was not his time.”

    Who is next?

    “After much prayer”

    JFC these cons are pathetic

Did god tell him to drop out or did polls simply show him that evangelicals now worship a different version than he does?

I think it was a combination of the two..

Pence - "God, help me... What should I do? Show me the path..."

God - "Look at the polls, dummy"

What I really wonder is if Mike will ever have a real "come to Jesus" moment. I don't think this is it.

For me, the Jesus moment that I am expecting him to do at some point in the future is admitting the sin of being the sycophantic fool for Trump. The only act he ever did in defiance of that was doing his job on Jan 6th.

Well, at least this frees him up to testify at any or all of Trump’s trials.

Not sure how anyone thought he had a chance in the first place. I suspect it was just wishful thinking by the folks who want the right to be controllable opposition again.

    That is true!

There will be more opportunities for him to come "clean" since the blood of Jesus didn't seem to get it done before.

Pence had no chance. He spent 3.9 years of the Trump administration defending Trump and then the last few days defying Trump.

No one who is opposed to Trump was going to vote for him and the Trump supporters were not going to vote for him.

'Electable' according to whom? No, I meant controllable. Believe it or not, there's people who want more Regans, more Republicans who bitch about govt being too big and powerful while making it bigger and more powerful.

Probably expected to add at least a few million to his net worth. Epic Fail

"Pence ended September with just $1.18 million left in his campaign account, a strikingly low number for a presidential contest and far less than his rivals, new filings show. His campaign also has $621,000 in debt — more than half the cash he had remaining — and is scrambling to meet donor thresholds for the Nov. 8 debate. While he would likely meet the debate’s polling requirements, Pence has struggled to gain traction and is polling in the low single digits nationally, with no sign of momentum."

Why does he use the word "suspend"?
    That's a temporary action.

“So after much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to suspend my campaign for president effective today.”

    Here we go. lol
    $$$$$$$

    As NBC News explains:

Politics ain’t bean bag, and not everyone can be a winner. But when candidates end their presidential bids, they usually don’t use words like “drop out” or “exit.”

    Instead, they “suspend.”

So why “suspend” when a candidate is definitely down for the count?

Like so many other things in presidential politics, it has to do with money.

Running for president is an expensive proposition, so a lot of candidates end up in debt. And a candidate can’t just walk away from that debt after their presidential hopes lose their shine.

CNN points out there are two important differences between suspending a campaign and dropping out: delegates and money:

Candidates who suspend their campaigns usually get to keep any delegates they’ve won and can continue to raise money beyond what’s needed to retire their campaign debts.

In contrast, candidates who actually drop out of a race, usually have to forfeit certain delegates and are limited in how they can raise future funds.

Guess? He still has nightmares of being nearly suspended from a rope on 1/6.... this is his way of facing his fears...

This isn't temporary, unless Trump croaks before Iowa....

I kind of get what you mean.

I meant that too uncontrollable (which is associated with unpredictable) can quickly become unelectable, unfettered though they may be. Most voters appear to want politicians that don't spike their amygdala activity.

Probably Haley. The anti-Trump candidates have to start consolidating soon and Pence wrecked his chances with that Tucker interview in which he made clear he is more concerned about Ukraine than America.

He parroted the bad orange man insurrection myth.

Shouldn't that be enough for you to prove his faith?

Isn't "saving democracy" from the evil bad orange man, enough to absolve his sins?

The Republicans will never be able to get a Neo-con past the finish line ever again. The American People have spoken about the movement that brought the country into two wars and have a direct hand in this manner. Even if Trump were sent to the lowest pits of hell, those who started the 2016 movement will never, ever vote for a neo conservative again.

Not in 2024, not in 2028, not ever. The Republicans best shot at recovery is to oust the neo-cons and their own heavy hitter ways and to have a grassroots political movement.

Until then, the elephant is its own party, incapable of reclaiming the WH.
