This couple was the subject of an NPR segment I heard this morning. They told a very touching story of how they met and eventually got married, 30 years later.

So why bring them up? Mary told a story about how they went to the unitarian church for a potluck dinner just before their marriage. A church she had been to hundreds of times. Each time passing by a security guard at the entrance of the parking lot without incident.

This time the guard stopped her because she had a black person in the car asking, "are you two sure you are in the right place?" It lead Mary's husband Kabin to tell her about the dozens and dozens of incidents he had experienced as a black man living in the US where he was treated with suspicion just because he is black.

This is an example, likely a minor one at that, of the insidious side of institutionalized discrimination white people can not appreciate. The kind many of this board like to pretend no longer exists. It makes me think about how many hundreds of millions of times black people have been denied housing, employment, admission, being welcomed to a neighborhood, generally equal treatment in all walks of life. You deniers might want to contemplate that.

How did blacks get the reputation some believe they have?

An ignorant security guard means "institutional racism". Awww! What horror!

Actually it does. That sort of thing is exactly what is meant by the term.

Actually it isn't. In the ENGLISH language, this is known as an isolated incident. Also rather suspect of having to time travel to 2016 to dig up an isolate incident. Gettin harder and harder for your folks to pull the race card huh? This thread is just Jussie Smolett Lite

Nope, that's exactly what is meant by the phrase, and similar incidents happen thousands of times a day.

It lead Mary's husband Kabin to tell her about the dozens and dozens of incidents he had experienced as a black man living in the US where he was treated with suspicion, or worse, just because he is black.

Dismissing incidents of black people having been denied housing, employment, advancement, being welcomed to a neighborhood, shot at, arrested, beaten, denied equal justice, choked to death, generally treated unequally in all walks of life makes you a denier.......as I suspected.

If they did they'd be front and center news for sure and the "victims" would be rich. He looks like a pretty big dude. I'm surprised he's so sensitive. The little white girl that just got knocked out by a black man in the subway the other day took it better than this whiner. I also noticed libs are dodging that thread like the plague
Haha, the double standards of you folks are most impressive

I've found that churches are the worst places to hang out if you have a significant amount in your checking or 401K accounts. If you're extremely lonely though you may find some comfort there.

It's not about how big anyone is, and it's not like anything would happen if it was reported becuase most folks would do just what you did and dismiss it. Who would it be reported to anyway?

You whataboutism is noted and ignored.

Dozens and Dozens you say? So numbers matter then? So 12% of the population committing 50% of the homicides matters? If so, numbers like that will make suspicion happen where it isn't needed.

I see it getting called out more for being blown out of proportion than being dismissed. Institutions can't really get away with this type of thing anymore. There is more black on white racism these days thanks to the left trying to shove racism in their faces every time they can and making them feel like victims.

No need to avoid that thread. It is, to put it simply, effing boring.

Millions of people live in NYC, so if course there are more nut jobs per capita. Nut jobs like the one in that thread do crazy, mean things sometimes, and they come in all colors. You righties worry too much, imo.

Supreme Court Denies Louisiana’s Fast-Track Attempt To Keep Map That Dilutes Black Voters’ Power

The Supreme Court on Monday denied Louisiana’s attempt to block a lower court’s order that it redraw its congressional maps. That court found that the state had likely diluted the power of Black voters in violation of the Voting Rights Act.

“This will allow the matter to proceed before the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit for review in the ordinary course and in advance of the 2024 congressional elections in Louisiana,” the brief Supreme Court order said.

Louisiana was trying to take a shortcut by going right to the Supreme Court — which the majority denied — though the Court had let the gerrymandered map stand for the 2022 midterms, despite the lower court finding.

    By one time being slaves.

Between slavery and equality there is a long long road that black people have not yet finished walking.

I read this in another group today. It might illustrate a bit further.

"Reports are coming in that Jesus did actually return. He appeared early in the day in Texas and embraced the first person he saw. However a group of evangelical Christians saw two men hugging and beat both of them to death with their bibles."

Yes! Religious bigotry IS institutional. Look at it this way: it's what the teachings of his church have told the guard he should do.

You're welcome... But, when I wrote that, I didn't know you were the security guard you mentioned in your post.

    Now I know...

I don't agree with profiling. I don't agree with the acts of this guard. What I do think is pathetic and that I disagree with is trying to use this one AGED incident as some kind evidence of "systematic racism". Its also pretty pathetic to go around calling everyone a bigot that has different views then you. SAD!

That is all 100% pure BS and you know it. I can debunk all of that.
Last I saw, Mr Chauvin was punished for his brutality with the choking incident.
Last I saw, most of the people committing assault & murder are (try not to get offended here) BLACK (hard to believe huh? being that they are a much smaller segment of the population of the united states)
Almost everything you just mentioned requires a TIME MACHINE

If one person has had "dozens and dozens of incidents", and that if that is true, and if that person is the norm, not the exception, then it can't be isolated, but commonplace.

Can it be fixed? Maybe, but I wouldn't know how, when lot of people refuse to even admit that it exists.

YOU? You say you don't agree with "profiling"? You have profiled teachers as if they were pedophiles over and over and now...

    Give me a break!
