What you do not appreciate is that your approach to moving forward results in moving backwards. Everybody understands, it's just that most realize the way forward [and it's not posturing as if you people are the only ones who care]. It's actually re-building institutions that foster opportunity [family, community, education, etc.]. You must eventually come to the realization that your constant whining has nothing to do with them and everything to do with yourselves.
It's those kinds of worthless posts that constantly have me on the verge of putting you on ignore. As always the internet is at your disposal if you wish to prove info in the link I provided is incorrect. I'll not hold my breath waiting. Of course it is problematic for so many black kids to be brought up in single parent homes. Everything from economics to, most often, the dad's absence and the issues they cause. But more than anything poverty is at the root of the problem in urban black America. I suspect the reasons for it are ones we disagree on since I don't hold the belief blacks are inherently inferior, or lazy, or shiftless, or bring on their own demise because of what you blithely call "black American culture."
Every time I see comments like that I'm reminded of a cartoon I once saw of a couple of white people asking each other why blacks can't get ahead as they let the air out of the tires of a black person's car.
It's like you need this narrative to give meaning to your life. Put all of this energy into something constructive. How about trying to work for school choice where you live. That will help!
I responded to Steve N, who wrote: How did blacks get the reputation some believe they have? Did he mention Holocaust survivors? No. If you are going to inject yourself into someone else's conversation, pay attention and follow the conversation.
It seems like you are accusing me of going off topic. I was using that as an example of another oppressed class but if you think its too off topic I apologize. That sort of thing annoys me as well. I'm sorry if that was the case.
Do you have people out there feeling sorry for you? I am sure there are all kinds of people who were born with more advantages than you.
I was just pointing out that if you had followed the conversation I was having with Steven N, the Holocaust wasn't mentioned and I was responding to his comment. Just make sure you understand what someone is posting about if they are in a conversation with someone else and you decide to jump in the middle of it, before you hit the 'post reply' button. No biggy, I've made that mistake myself.
Doesn't sound institutionalized to me. It sounds like there was a racist guard. Racism is not systemic. It is personal.
I doubt the accuracy of this story. The Unitarian Church is, by a wide margin, the most liberal denomination in the American Christian spectrum.
There are many ways an inaccurate story can be generated. Lying is only one of them. On the other hand, there is no appearance test for liars, and the most successful liars look the most honest.
Good Story. They don't know it exists because it's in their culture. They were brought up that way. Why they deny it is something I can't figure out. Stories like the OP happen to almost every black person in USA.
Over 250 yrs of slavery, discrimination, segregation, redlining, poverty, etc. Forced upon them legally in USA.
Yes, America is littered with ignorance like that of the security guard. It's part of American culture. So if 100M people in USA are ignorant like the security guard, that makes it unintentional institutional racism.
Your statement is akin to the systemic racism still rampant in USA. All some can do, as you did, is to blame skin color. Without any regard as to why those stats are so out of normal. There's a reason. Most has to do with 250 yrs of slavery, discrimination, segregation, redlining, etc. Legal forced systemic racism. 250 yrs of it. Only 15 yrs ago, did someone in congress offer up an apology to the black community. Meaning America finally admitted, after 250 yrs, the harm imposed on the blacks in USA just a mere 15 yrs ago. The oldest living people to have lived with America's recognition of those grave harms are sophomores in high school.
There's no reason to assume you are correct about the incident. But let's assume you are. I'll cross one of millions of other incidents off the list. Happy? Key Takeaways Racial disparities within the criminal justice system continue to be a pressing issue for the US and California. In the wake of the killing of George Floyd, discussions around police reforms have heightened and centered on how law enforcement engages with people of color. In this report, we analyze data for almost 4 million stops by California’s 15 largest law enforcement agencies in 2019, examining the extent to which people of color experience searches, enforcement, intrusiveness, and use of force differently from white people. While it is important to caution the reader that analysis of these differences is not causal, our analysis—which focuses in particular on differences between Black and white Californians—reveals notable differences. https://www.ppic.org/publication/racial-disparities-in-law-enforcement-stops/
My point was exclusively about the incident you cited, and was rooted in my knowledge of the Unitarian Church. About the rest I'm indifferent. I have no doubt that Blacks are stopped disproportionately compared to Whites. I also have no doubt that a higher percentage of Blacks (compared to the total Black population) commit crimes that the percentage of Whites who commit crimes (compared to the total White population).
