in the "current events" section there were 2 threads started by liberal posters. Both were about the same topic. The thrust of the thread was a mayor who is gay but is also a Republican. He was accused by the posters of hypocricy because he's a GOP party member and gay. I know a few gay people and the only liberal ones are female. I'm no Bible thumping conservative but more fiscal conservative and then libertarian on social issues as are most of my friends. What do you find in your experiences to be the makeup (not scientific naturally)?
I don't see any contradiction. Life isn't cut and dry. People more often than not don't fit into nice neatly stackable boxes. We are all individuals, who come from various backgrounds, with different experiences. Our personal choices and political affiliations are effected by these backgrounds. Because of this I really don't see any irony in a gay conservatives. May be a little counterproductive if your seeking a political career..but hey you never know.
that's how I see it as well Sure, we bump heads a bunch in this section because i'm for less govt and want the govt out of marriage as well as a bunch of other things instead of more involvement. Where do you see your friends falling in the spectrum?
Well...I have a pretty good assortment of friends. Some who are hard line liberal, some who are stringent christian conservative, and one who really should have been a sixties flower child. She was born in the wrong generation I believe. I like friends I can debate with and who don't always agree with me. It keeps me honest. Most importantly though, I like friends I can have a civil chat with about politics. People who aren't going to end a friendship over differing opinions.
tell me she doesn't wear those loose flowing print dresses??? that describes one of my wife's friends to a tee right down to questionable personal hygiene. She is the gay female who is all things liberal but is a true sweetheart despite her misguided political views. I think I gain 5 pounds every time we go to her house gourging on her good cooking.
Oooh...how to put it... Most of her clothing I believe she hand makes. She always has bright colors, she loves Bob Marley....she has posters of him everywhere. She constantly has something new and quirky vegan to try, and she absolutely has to have flowers growing in her house at all times. She's a really great person, but she is quirky to say the least.
I've known more liberal gay men than conservative gay men, but that may be because the one metro area I lived in was dominated by social consevatives, such that even the liberals tended to be a bit closeted, while the conservatives were deeply so. The other metro area I've lived in is considered to be the most liberal part of my state. Hence, more liberal gay men than conservative gay men. Same for the lesbians.
