There has been a lot of chat on the Web about a possible conspiracy concerning this match, a draw would see both teams through, Jurgen Klinsman ( german legend ) is the USA coach also. The other two teams ( portugal and Ghana ) who play eachother in the final round of games would see their game as redundant if the Americans and Germans agree on a match fix. This is not unheard of, only 20 years ago Germany were involved in a similar game in the World Cup where for the last 45 minutes they proceeded to pass the ball to eachother using their noses while the opposition were amazingly tying their shoelaces for those 45 minutes, it was inevitably deemed farcical. All that said, iwould just like to remind the Germans (im half german) of this little episode in history: [video=youtube;G-ONKg5ci3I]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-ONKg5ci3I[/video] Never forget who your REAL enemies are.
America is still better positioned to get through to the knockout stage than Ghana, which is likely to be defeated by Portugal in the next match, and this will put America ahead of both Ghana and Portugal. It's less likely that Portugal could pass the US on goal differential as Portugal is minus 4 at this point. But if Ghana beats Portugal by 2-0 and America loses to Germany by 1-2, Ghana would have a better goal differential than the US and advance. If Germany and the US did this - Then I would laugh and laugh and laugh http://sports.nationalpost.com/2014...-undercover-investigation-exposes-corruption/
At the World Cup this can happen and usually the purpose is to eliminate from the competition a potential strong opponent [for the strongest team "signing" the "biscuit", as we call this kind of secret agreement in Italy] and to find an easy way to pass the first phase [for the less strong team]. Germany could desire an easy elimination of Portugal which can always find again its attitude and its games and become again a tough opponent [overall in direct elimination matches] and US could desire to pass the first phase without spending a lot of energy and stamina to fight it out against Germany. We will see ...
wow, the OP is ripe with anti-German bigotry. and such a conspiracy would be very risky, as one of the teams could decide to get a goal in the last 30 seconds.
considering the op is german its hardly likely but go ahead and keep posting WAY off the mark as usual
I hope there is no match fixing, but Germany will hopefully win. I hate it when the US team wins any match as Americans don't care. Most don't even know what the World Cup is or that it is even on. To the OP: Your post was not funny. 25,000 civilians died in one night during the bombing of Dresden. It was a horrific war crime and not to be glorified or used as a punch line. Is this funny to you?
it was not supposed to, thats why iadded, know who your REAL enemies are. The only real enemies germany had was america, britain and germany was a tribal affair but america getting involved was just american ego tripping. like they didnt get a big enough kick out of taking 10 million so- called afrikans captive or stealing some indian turf. Foot -ball is a progression, a progression from the barbaric practices associated with war, this football match should be world war III, a peek into our future.
If this World Cup is any indicator of WWIII, then it will be centered somewhere in Latin America. Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Uruguay, and Argentina are all going on. England, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Japan, and Australia are all going home. If Germany falls, I'll throw my support behind my favorite Latin American team Chile... or anybody in the entire world but France!
There is a lot of chat on the web about any possible conspiracy you can think of. Even if Klinsmann and Löw (or J-Lo as we like to call him here) had a deal between them, I doubt that any of the German or US players would play along.
No team is obligated to do anything that would jeopardize it's position...when netherlands played chile they only needed a draw to get their perfered 1st place position so they played a highly defensive game that reflected that, why play a riskier attacking game when they had no need to....germany usa will approach their match the same way, they will do just enough to protect their group position and no more, that's not match fixing it's just smart...
can you find a link to a story about that germany game in 94, I can't find anything and I want to cite it as precedent on another site. - - - Updated - - - exactly
I have a feeling Germany is going to play right over the heads of the US team, literally. Let's hope for that tie.
advancing is the goal... and yes, players will go along with it.... the hatred of sport purists thinking "oh, noone would ever do that" is false as soccer is already the most corrupt sport in the world. You thinking Germany and USA are somehow above that is hilarious. and like wyly said... they have a job to do and will play a game that assures them the best opportunity to advance. two teams playing defense for 90 minutes will be the result
I recall the game and again germans were under no obligation to help out another team and risk its group standing....there is the strategy within an individual game and the bigger strategy of the "group" standings, 1st advancing out of the group stage 2nd determining who the team faces next in the knockout phase...neutral fans are under the impression that teams are under some compulsion to entertain them but the only objective is to win the tournament, the winning teams fans dont care how its achieved...
true but is the target advancing, or advancing even more? If usa decides to tie the game they risk being eliminated by a strong belgium team. if they decide to beat germany then they will play Algeria, a much easier proposition and would mean advancing to the quarter finals which would shoot them up the world rankings even more to the extent that they could become a seeded team in 4 years!
yes, should be a proper test for them tonight though as Ecuador always puts in a high quality and consistent performance
thats the point, the best players always gamble on themselves. we shall see if usa has the loser mentality, or bigger goals. To be fair, they should look to become one of the worlds biggest teams and not stick with mediocrity.
