I don't think they're above it in general. I know perfectly well that players will do anything to get the result they want, as long as they can get away with it. Only I can't imagine they would get away with it that easily.
After that game against Austria (which was in '82 by the way) press and fans were mighty pissed.
Personally, Löw and Klinsmann don't strike me as the kind of guys to pull something like that off.

Not too sure about Klinsman, he had a bit of a reputation for cheating as a player with all his diving antics. They even named a celebration after him and he began to do it himself after he scored, the celebration was A Big Dive.

Klinsmann is a realist, germany is very strong playing an agressive game trying to defeat them could open the usa to a huge loss, goals matter in group stage...klinsmann will take a win if he can get it but he'll play for a draw, germany won't risk losing as they would prefer not to play Belgium in the next round, a draw works but a one goal lead guarantees they won't play Belgium next...expect a cautious match but both teams will score if given the opportunity...

thank you for the year... I found a link to it.

The big problem now... what happens if they just HAPPEN to draw.... people are still going to be upset and conspiracy nuts willl be hitting the internet claiming Portugual and Ghana were screwed

maybe if soccer gets rid of Draws in pool play... this isn't such an issue

draws are part of league play...without a draw possibility there would be a potential for a teams to play three games with double overtime and penalty shots in the group stage, it would be physically exhaustive greatly increasing the risk of injury to a limited player pool, a definite advantage to larger countries with more talent depth.....

algeria was the victim...but I can't fault either germany or austria they had the result they both needed why ruin it to please algeria...I believe that is one reason why today the final group games have the same kickoff time...

Bradley will probably be the best player on the German team.

Americans are getting more interested in the world cup because we have so many immigrants now and they all watch it.

american participation numbers are huge currently number 3 behind basketball and baseball/softball but im not sure the latter should count as one game and not two smaller games...I ve spent 50 yrs playing and coaching and all the americans ive encountered in the game were not immigrants...on a professional level soccer is now number 3 for attendance behind nfl and mlb...americans are no different than canadians in regards to soccer there is a growing enthusiasim because the younger generations understand it better than the older demographics...in 20 yrs I expect soccer to be the most popular sport in usa and canada...

no, we're only interested because it's on 24/7 right now, and every sportcenter talks about it at least 3 segments...

beyond that... if/when the US is eliminated... US interest in the World Cup will go back to it's rightful place..... saturday mornings when Americans take their 5 y.o.'s to the city league games

How is that different than the superbowl, olympics or any sporting event?

denial in opposition to statistical fact, US television ratings continue to grow with every WC just as soccer continues to grow every year in the USA...the US viewing audience for the USA vs Portugal match was the same as the 2010 WC Final Spain vs Netherlands final....as I've already posted attendance at MLS games has now surpassed attendance at NHL and NBA, soccer is now the USAs 3rd largest attended pro sport the media and older americans still haven't figured that out as yet...

when the superbowl is over, people still care about football.... not so much about soccer. That's why it's different. We are only appearing to care because that's all that's being talked about. When the US loses, they will go back to forgetting about soccer and gearing up for college football.

terms like "fastest growing" are deceptive as increasing from 100 views to a 1000 views is, percentage wise, a bigger growth than football, but really, does it mean it's going to be the next big thing. Hardly

American football is king, and soccer won't even beat out the NHL (the 4th most popular sport) in terms of popularity in the US in our lifetimes

largest travelling fan base /= most fans.... it means we have fans with disposable income. How many Ghana residents you think can afford the trip? You know, Ghana, who had to ration electricity when they played the US so they could watch the game....

partially wrong... I did say football was king... your article agrees.

Also take into account, I don't have to actually attend a football/baseball/basketball game in order to watch it, unlike soccer, which gets zero coverage, especially during October (baseball), fall, college and pro football, or winter/spring (nhl/nba)

stadium attendence numbers are but one part in total popularity.... TV coverage, heck, even the radio, allows me to keep up with college football, and I can still go watch a game any saturday/sunday I want.

    Anybody but France!

    Germany v Argentina.

Or if we want to see an entire continent explode and sink into the ocean: Brazil v Argentina.

ive got France beating brazil in the semis to be fair and the Argies beating Germany in the other. Brazil look average. Sadly for you, dont know why you despise them, France is looking very hot and it will be a supreme effort to stop them reaching the Final. Btw, Argies cant play Germany in the Final if im correct.
