I don't know about that because we could always SAY an American fishing trawler spotted that plane overhead four hours later.

The fact that highjackers and pilots CAN disconnect the transponder is a crock, especially after 9/11. That thing should be put in an inaccessible place on the plane (maybe out on a wingtip), should not be able to be turned off from anywhere within the plane, and should turn itself on the minute the pilot fires up the engines. I know when I was flying small planes, I had to arm the transponder myself with a little toggle on the side of the plane. Goofy.

Actually, the transponder is not in the cockpit. Only the controller for the transponder is. And you can't put that anywhere else.

As I posted a Boeing 777 will continue to send data even if an Airline has not paid for the Maintenance Specific Data Stream Service....and Boeing could turn this on and probably has.

In order for this to be disconnected the power supply would have to be disconnected and as their exists a LOT of Capacitors even if power was disconnected these capacitors are still going to power this data stream.

The extent of just how much data can still be sent is CLASSIFIED.

I wasn't going to say this but 10 to 1 this Aircraft is in Myramar which used to be called Burma.

I have NOT been read into this and I am just guessing but it make sense.

Okay, I have to know why a transponder has to have a controller and, if it does have to have a controller, why it can't be placed somewhere other than the cockpit. It can be separated from the squawk/ident function.

The transponder controller is placed in the cockpit in case something goes wrong with it and the pilots have to adjust it.

You have to remember these big jets are sent a data stream from the airports allowing the Jets Computers to know EXACTLY what altitude the runway is for landing as if it is foggy and a pilot has to fly using instrumentation until that pilot is low enough to see through cloud cover or fog to know when to pull up during landing...and an airport radios to an aircraft they see them on Radar but their transponder is not working or the aircraft's computer is not accepting altitude and wind speed and other data....the pilots need to be able to adjust or reset or fix the transponder.

Now all newer Boeing Jet Aircraft have additional data steaming tech. and this allows both Boeing, the NSA and the Airline to know all sorts of data.

OK, I am tired of all this aggressive nonsense.

It has a controller which the pilot uses to change frequencies and squawk codes. Obviously you know enough for this, so you do have a clue.

A transponder is also a big red beacon which is broadcasting the aircraft's information all over the freaking place. Pilots frequently turn them off when they are not in the air space of an ATC that will actually pay attention to it. They will also change it as they enter and leave ATC zones.

They also turn them off fairly often. Imagine the headache a large airport like LAX will have if every airplane that is loading or unloading passengers, or undergoing maintenance, or anything else has it's transponder up and broadcasting?

Or if the transponder is malfunctioning and sending out incorrect data?

Or even worse, what if it malfunctions so badly it shorts and starts a fire?

Yes, there are many reasons why pilots have the ability to turn these off, but these few should show why it needs to be available. It does not matter if you understand them or not.

I know what you are going though.

Some members will react to any information given in a manner that blames the messenger! LOL!!!

I am betting that aircraft is in Myramar.

I don't think the country of Myramar itself is attempting to steal it....I think some Criminal element is up to something either specific to the passengers or to a passenger.

As I said...I have NOT been read into this and I am just guessing but I am fairly certain I am right.

The USA is a warring Nation. It has never stopped since WW2.

    They have Afghanistan on the go;
    Syria still to finish off
and already meddle in the Ukraine, antagonizing Russia.

I guess they have to, if they want to stay as top dog. As soon as they loosen their grip they'll be the ones getting beaten up.
"Make no mistake"... it will be sweet revenge from all those countries they terrorized and tortured.
    What goes around, comes around.

You are so correct. When will we ever learn to mind our own business and stop sticking our nose's into everyone Else's affairs?

My bad, I was confusing a transponder with an ELT. THAT is what should be inaccessible, should turn on at engine start, should broadcast the plane's tail number, and it should still be a beacon if the plane goes down. At any rate, there's no reason a $70,000,000 airplane should simply vanish.

Uhhh, the Emergency Locator Transmitter is only used for emergencies. Now just think about what you are saying there.

That is like having every cop car at all times driving around in Code 3. And then how are you going to locate an aircraft if they really are in distress?

The point of this discussion is that airliners should not be allowed to vanish. Something on the plane should be sending out a continuous signal and it should be inaccessible to anyone on the plane. That is NOT beyond our capabilities.

No, actually it has not. You have been simply distracting it so that it no longer applies to the point of this discussion.

But hey, what the hell. Why not start to talk about laser guns and mind control nanobots. It has as much bearing as reality as this does.

I don't know what it will take...perhaps a good beating of the kind you administer to others.
Although this thread is mainly about Afghanistan, it wont hurt to let you read an article about Iraq, lest you forget you left a devastated country behind.

Iraq Nation Destroyed, Oil Riches Confiscated. Surviving Iraqi Population Impoverished
Iraqis who survived U.S. genocide still poor and oppressed. U.S.-created puppet government spawns lethal insurgency.

On the 11th anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq (launched in March 2003), it is important to emphasize the true motives for this attack and occupation and its horrendously destructive impact that continues today.
Both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars stem from the needs of U.S. and Western capitalism for resources and markets.
    .....

Since 1945, the United States has presided over the killing of more than 46 million people in the Global South through wars and neocolonialism in order to maintain Western economic dominance.
    ....

The major reason for the U.S. invasion in March 2003 was to get control of Iraq’s oil.
A related factor was the intention of the ruler of Iraq, Saddam Hussein, to sell Iraq’s oil in Euros rather than U.S. dollars, which would have encouraged other oil producers to do the same, thereby endangering the dollar’s position as the world’s reserve currency, which is crucial to the U.S.’s economic viability.

The genocidal invasion and preceding sanctions killed three million Iraqis, including half a million children, and totally destroyed a relatively advanced developing country whose people were largely prosperous.

    ---------------------

At least in that war Canada didn't join in. We still had Jean Chretien as PM. But in Afghanistan and Libya we were very active in the destruction. It is so unfair how a bunch of wealthy countries bunch together to destroy a much inferior country for no other reason than enhancing themselves.
Cest la vie... it's like a game in the schoolyard - the bullies beat up the weaker ones.
I believe in: You shall reap what you sowed! Such is God's fair justice.

    Sleep well, everyone!:fingerscrossed:

And do you think Iraq was a successful country before the war?

Oh, and "complete lack of credibility" for your source. I think I have mentioned this before.

Right from their own "about" page:

Come on now, really? And with a reference like this you expect to be taken seriously? This is Conspiracy Theory fodder, not the source of realistic information.

Are you for real?? What kind of arrogant insinuation is that? Does it matter to you? Besides, if you had read the story you would know they were doing quite well.
I know it hurts. Whenever it doesn't suit you it is the wrong source; something is bad or wrong with the source. Naturally!!! 96% of the media is in controlling hands. If one wants to learn the other side of the coin, one is forced to dig around for the less visible and unpopular sources. Thank God we can still find them on the internet. You may stay and remain ignorant and indoctrinated, if you like - the choice is yours.

    Oh yes.

Invaded 2 different countries in 10 years, using chemical weapons on it's own citizens, a hundred thousand of it's own citizens placed into mass graves by it's own leadership.

Now excuse the (*)(*)(*)(*) out of me, but if (*)(*)(*)(*)ing want to call that successful, then you do not have a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing clue what you are talking about!

I guess Hitler was a "successful government" as well under your definition. I am sorry, but in my book, "successful governments" do not do this to it's people:

Myself, I call this a "Fail Government", with a capitol F.

Not successful, but in far, far better shape than it is today (not to mention during the war).

Zero U.S. Troops Died In Combat In March, The First Time In More Than A Decade

    http://thinkprogress.org/world/2014/03/31/3421286/zero-combat-deaths/

March 2014 marked the first time in more than a decade that there were zero U.S. fatalities among American troops engaging in combat, according to numbers from the Department of Defense.
After a decade at war in the post-9/11 environment, with major wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and smaller conflicts in the various other countries where the U.S. uses more covert methods to fight against terrorism, the lack of combat deaths in March 2014 marks a milestone

Strange how the Republicans haven't praised President Obama for that ...

Mass graves, a leader who starves his people while he builds new palaces with gold toilets, an infrastructure that is crumbling, and that was better then it is today?

BTW, "today" is rather meaningless as far as the US is concerned, we have been out of there for years now.
