I hope they sue DeSantis into oblivion. Of course, that won't happen, if they win, he'll be forced to put the course back into the high school curriculum, which I think is just. However, I should think a class action suit with punitive damages might be in order. But, I'm no lawyer.

    What say you?

    https://www.npr.org/2023/01/25/1151...rican-american-studies-desantis-crump-lawsuit

Three Florida high school students are poised to sue Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis after the state Education Department rejected a new Advanced Placement course covering African American studies. The news comes one day after the College Board announced it would revise the course.

"By rejecting the African American history pilot program, Ron DeSantis has clearly demonstrated that he wants to dictate whose history does — and doesn't — belong," Democratic state Rep. Fentrice Driskell said at a news conference in Tallahassee, announcing the lawsuit, on Wednesday.

    Precisement ! [/fake French accent]

I'd suggest you lay off the partisan demagoguery here. It seems pretty ridiculous that you've chosen to level a racism charge when the facts clearly do not support your assertion. The level of intellectual dishonesty here is remarkable...

Starting with the obvious - Governor Death is a fool

Since there was no legitimate reason to reject a National program that is NOT required for HS students in Florida, I think they'd have a pretty good case to make, but I understand they'll wait until the College Board submits their "revised" course. Which won't matter a whit if it's still titled AP African American studies.....

The College Board should keep the current course material and just change the title to AP NASCAR History and it would fly through...

Finally, you'll never get punitive damages, since nobody has been harmed... yet

The dishonesty is yours. How so?

First, you accused me leveling a racism charge, yet you can't find the quote in my OP that levels it.

Second, criticizing a policy is not demagoguery.

    Demagoguery. noun.

Political activity or practices that seek support by appealing to the desires and prejudices of ordinary people rather than by using rational argument.

Given that my argument is rational, appeals to a rational, sensible, person, of any class, race, creed or sexual orientation, it cannot be 'demagoguery'.

However, what IS demagoguery is DeSantis's ban on the academic course, created by a prestigious long list of men and women of letters because he deems the course 'woke', a weasel word if there ever were one, one that he refuses to define, but his deeds and rhetoric sure as hell panders to his base and there isn't one iota of rational reasoning applied to his motive for doing it.

Racists are often afraid of having people better understand what racism looks like.

I won't call it 'woke'(which is another buzzword for 'enlightened' or stuff like that). And while there's nothing wrong with learning about the history of Arican-Americans, it's the nature and context of these courses that have unfortunately shaped the discussion. Unfortunately, when it comes to discussions like these, they often too much go back to oppression and then bring out the grievances over a century old. I don't think there's any benefit to the African-American community(so much so, that other native Africans who visit the country such as from Jamaica, etc have a very different outlook on the situation.)

I think it's important for these families to heal and let go.

Personally I've never liked DeSantis, and him particularly going out of his way to remove AA studies just further made me dislike him because it struck me as having an ulterior motive.

As they should. Banning African American studies because of the CRT boogeyman is rather petty and childish. This accomplishes nothing except giving red meat to his base. They'll love him for it and revel in their own perceived self-righteousness.

LOL... So if you entirely ignore the stated reasons, that included the "whoopsie, there was an LBGT indoctrination module included which violated FL law) part.".. See, here's the thing. The willingness to throw the racism card instead of being at least tacitly honest about the actual issue... well, that's special for sure... LMAO...

No he banned that course because of the CRT in it. That isn't history. It is ideology and racist ideology at that. He said he supports history and black history. He doesn't want CRT in the schools and neither do the parents. One wonders where high school students would get the money to hire a lawyer. History good. Ideology bad in school curricula.

Disbelief in the words of politicians is a smart thing. I have always recommended it.

Good. But you need to disapprove of teaching students to be racist.

DeSantis has the responsibility to tell his constituents, what, precisely is it about the course he is banning that is 'not in compliance' with the law.

I'm not convinced he even knows.

There ya go, bring in the emotional appeals, have the children try to prove he's wrong.

The Wokesters are pathetic. They cannot defend the curriculum that even Jesse Watters has read in detail and exposed, so they bring in the children, appealing to emotions.

How exquisitely wonderful that "one" individual is allowed to make rulings that affect the entire populace.

Are there specific time frames to study history? I thought the whole idea of teaching history was to understand situations in the past - well beyond 100 years.
