This is just wrong. It’s almost like any kind of personal freedom in Australia is being reduced to meaning just do what we tell you to do and like it.

    Talk about big brother.

Except with his fuller statement in the video he is clearly talking about checking on people who are sick to make sure they are quarantining as required.

It's become nuts. The Aussies are on what, lockdown 6 dot oh or something like that. But lockdowns work, right? THey must because if you lock down, there is no need for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th........................never mind

Australia and the U.S. are both countries of “the free world.”

But the Australian concept of “freedom” is much different than the American concept of freedom.

In Australia, you have as much freedom as the government sees fit to give you today, and it is subject to change by decree tomorrow. And, it seems, Australians are comfortable with that.

Australia have been a police state since...I think since John Howard was PM. They strangle entrepreneurs with red tape and bureaucracy, initiative are licensed until it kills all creativity. Therefore we should not be surprised that bureaucrats think eliminating the virus will actually work since they've always managed to control everything and everyone in the past, why not covid. Completely out of touch with the very taxpayers who fund their wages, it doesn't matter to them if you lose your job, business or home...I'm sure it doesn't even cross their minds.

    What they should have done?

Well they should have done what they said they were going to do at the start. They should have flattened the curve not crush the impossible.
This would have allowed us to build herd immunity while hospitals can cope.

The reality we are now left with is zero immunity because vaccines do not give you immunity against the new covid strains. The idea of vaccine immunity is a myth....it doesn't exist.

Yes, the Australian government has gone straight down the toilet. I actually was reading this thinking bower-b posted it and I was thinking ...wow...I finally agreed with something they said but on second look I saw it wasn't our favorite lefty Aussie poster.

Just how far down the toilet has Australia gone? Every former communist country in Europe is more free than Australia. At least the lockdowns have unveiled the mask.

South Australia and Victoria out of lockdown this week. Mission accomplished! :salute:

If only the premier of New South Wales hadn't hesitated, Sydney would be out of lockdown too :(

Australia began as a Penal Colony for Britain. Likely that mindset still rules there.

Is Australia trying to irradicate the virus from existence?

They would have to remain in utter isolation for eternity. Seems so not commensense.

No its a 'mind set' of rallying together (for the most part) as a community. And before yo comment on our 'convict past' perhaps you'd like to reflect or learnt a little American history first. Such as the fact the only reason Australia was was founded as a penal settlement was that following the revolution America was not longer available as a dumping ground for surplus convicts. Point being that until 1776 that's where they all got dumped.

Not to mention the something like 30% of 'free' colonists who were inf act debt bonded servants bound to their masters in domestic servitude until they managed to pay off their debts and who could be 'traded' as deemed fit by the owners of their contracts.

Now you were talking about the land of the free?

No. What were doing is trying to contain it till vaccination rates reach 70-80%. At that point all the restrictions come off and lock downs won't be used exception in exceptional/specific cases where it makes sense e.g. some remote communities, an aged care home if there's an outbreak, that kind of thing.

And the evidence that ALL of them were vaccinated before becoming ill is what?

And yet we rate more highly on (multiple) measures of personal freedom, economic equality, educational standards and the rule of law than the US. Go figure.

Don't hold your breath. The best you can hope for is some absolute fringe anti-vaxx website or a FB post. Any challenge will be met with claims of a 'conspiracy' to 'hide the truth'. Some people are just programmed to accept any lie that suits them. Sometimes it is breeding, sometimes culture, sometimes both.

It's weird, normally our Aussie brothers are so switched on but they really seem to have screwed this up, despite their geographical remoteness and all the space they have?
