In a recent CDC report, nursing homes had a median vaccination rate of 37.5% for staff during the first month of the federal vaccination effort; by comparison, a median of 77.8% of nursing home residents received the vaccine. This has surprised some policymakers. Recently, Maryland's acting health secretary told state lawmakers that about one-third to one-half of staff offered the vaccine chose to have it –– nowhere near an expectation of 80% to 90%.

Many health care workers are refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccine

A significant percentage of doctors, nurses, EMS workers, support staff and other health care employees said they turned down the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines over concerns they may not be safe or effective, according to a recent survey by Surgo Ventures, a non-profit group focused on solving health and social problems. Others in the health field worried the development of the vaccine had been rushed.

"We have a lot more work to do to get health care workers to take the vaccine. Simply making it available is not enough — we have to take a more precise, targeted approach to reach different segments of population to overcome hesitancy," Hannah Kemp, director of programs for Surgo Ventures, told CBS MoneyWatch.

Surgo polled more than 2,500 U.S. health care workers to assess their comfort in getting vaccinated. At the time of the survey, administered from December 17 to 30, 53% of respondents had been offered the vaccine. Of those workers, 15%, or almost 200 people polled, said they had refused to take the vaccine, with many claiming there is insufficient evidence the treatments are effective, despite assurances otherwise by federal and state health agencies and major pharmaceutical companies.

Thousands of workers are opting to get fired, rather than take the vaccine

"I just did not want to take the shot," says Bohnak, who is 68. "I felt it was my right as a human being and a citizen of the U.S. to decide what I put in my body."

    The Coronavirus Crisis
Faced with losing their jobs, even the most hesitant are getting vaccinated
Across the country, employers are firing workers for refusing to comply with vaccine mandates. Some people are opting to quit their jobs rather than take the shot.

Washington state reports that so far, nearly 1,900 state workers, including the head football coach at Washington State University, have quit or been fired for refusing the vaccine. In Michigan, 400 workers at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit walked away from their jobs. North Carolina-based Novant Health fired about 175 employees. And the list goes on.

    Good question!

Im thinking they were smart enough to see all the flashing red lights?

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky is stepping down from agency
Walensky took over at the beginning of Biden's term in January 2021 as the administration began to roll out vaccines for Covid-19.

Walensky wrote in a letter to Biden, according to the CDC on Friday. "I took on this role, at your request,

The announcement of her departure comes a few days after a 39-year-old CDC employee, Amy St. Pierre, was shot and killed Wednesday in a shooting in midtown Atlanta, where the CDC is located.

Walensky signaled that now is the right time to leave as the nation turns the page on the Covid pandemic.

I find nothing wrong in facilities such as nursing homes requiring their employees to be vaccinated against the COVID virus.

I also find nothing wrong in employees in such facilities refusing to take the vaccine.

That employees who refuse to take the vaccine will no longer work at such facilities is a simple 'given'.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well.

I don't think it was a matter of intelligence, smartness or IQ, it was a matter of being brave enough to reject peer pressure. The same dynamics were demonstrated decades ago by Stanley Milgram and Solomon Asch. Most humans follow the herd and submit to authority. Only the brave individuals were able to walk away from their job and/or the herd.

Even intelligent humans can manifest cognitive dissonance.

I have wondered for a while now...how many doctors had their "vaccines" quietly squirted into a sink, while they got a shot of saline and the appropriate paperwork completed...

Though I did not find out until a year or more after the fiasco started, I know maybe a dozen (ordinary people) who did just that.

I have seen direct evidence, in the form of full vials of the serum never administered, amounting to about 100. It happened. Obviously most people must keep it secret.

The ushering in of the "hoax pandemic" in order to force people to then willingly inject themselves with a biological weapon was one of the greatest crimes against humanity ever undertaken, on a global scale.

And when such facilities have trouble finding workers, which many do anyway, they will pivot their policies. That is what happened with a nurse relative of mine refused to take it. She said see ya and before too long they wanted her back but she had to test every week. And then once she had COVID, they said she no longer needed to test every week. Anyway, it is not as pressing of an issue now that we have more effective known ways to treat infections.

When the medical bureaucracy is saying one thing and the medical workers are doing the opposite, one should be very worried about the disconnect, and the choice between who to follow shouldn’t be clearer.

Democrats would have you believe the bureaucracy should be believed and the practitioners are ignorant. That would be extremely stupid.

Kinda like how Democrats would have you believe the police are extremely racist…except for the bureaucracy at the top: the Merrick Garlands of the world are unquestionably unbiased and fair.

basically: take what Democrats say and do the opposite. You’ll be just fine.

How come so many health care workers don't get vaccinated?

Possibly because they know more about health care than politicians.

I have met some Healthcare workers who regret getting vaccinated. Especially, those involved with pre-natal care.

Of course, the premise of the thread is nonsense. Health care workers get vaccinated at rates higher than the general population.

    Those who don't?

Some are brainwashed by religious fervor. Their cult told them something, so they choose the cult over science.

And some are just dumb. There are various categories of "health care worker". Some, like the positions we used to refer to as "orderlies" or "candy stripers", require very little training, and anyone with a pulse can pass.

Could it possibly be that they have witnessed too many vacccine related illnesses? Can't just jump to conclusions. I am sure the truth will come out either way in due time. Nobody should assume an experimental drug created in less than 6 months and passed government regulations which uses 5 to 10 year standards of approval as completely safe for everyone just because your favorite politician said so. There will be some casualties.

Also the OP is dated May 11, 2023 but the "recent" report HIS link leads to is from February 2021, two years old.

Maybe he just has a different definition of "recent" than I do.

In evangelical circles, nursing is regarded as one of the few careers acceptible for a woman. Thus, evangelicals are over-represented in that field. That pretty much explains the antivax sentiment.

Do we think a nurse working at a Nursing home is significantly more educated about vaccines than a plumber?

Yes, but which group has higher rates of vaccination?

Meanwhile: AMA survey shows over 96% of doctors fully vaccinated against COVID-19 | American Medical Association (ama-assn.org)

If we assume all links are true, it appears doctors were far more likely to get vaccinated than less-educated healthcare workers.

But isn't this issue old yet? We're not worrying about vaccinating people as much anymore.

Except that the more educated ones have high rates of vaccination. So how do you explain that away? You think orderlies are reading "studies" ? LOL!!

Have you met anyone who regrets their loved ones not taking the vaccine and dying? Have you regretted anyone who got very sick when they did not take the vaccine from Covid 19?

What is the point sharing your selective bias based on self serving stories you can't prove?

Do you know nurses and for that matter health care workers that were exposed to Covid 19 from people who would not take the vaccine? Do you know health care workers who because they did not take the vaccine suffered illnesses they could have avoided and for that matter may have healed faster and not spread their virus to others?

Again you provide selective bias in the version of someone you know...but it ignores a hell of a lot of other people who have put their lives on the line and asked we show them consideration by taking the vaccine. Yah nurses and many others.

The few of you on this thread providing self serving "stories" ignore the real world and how the vast majority of first responders, doctors, nurses, firefighters, paramedics, taxi drivers, bus drivers, teachers, to name a few who asked we think of them and take the vaccine.

Why di you selectively ignore them and that world around you? What is it that you need to tune out the world of humans you do not care about and don't suit your narrative?

Do you really think your self serving bias stories makes them and the real world vanish?

You create a bubble of self reflection that deliberately ignores your fellow humans' needs and interests and focuses only on your own needs.

    Why?

Speak for yourself. Don't presume to make your bias and subjective opinions credible because you pose it as someone else's opinion.

The reasons health care providers asked us all to take the vaccine and they did as well is there. You just choose to ignore it.
