    <Snip>
    The rich, as we’ve reported, often deduct millions of dollars from their taxes related to buying and operating their jets and yachts. Crow followed that formula through a company that purported to charter his superyacht. But a closer examination of how Crow used the yacht raises questions about his compliance with the tax code, experts said. Despite Crow's representations to the IRS, ProPublica reporters could find no evidence that his yacht company was actually a profit-seeking business, as the law requires.

    “Based on what information is available, this has the look of a textbook billionaire tax scam,” said Senate Finance Committee chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore. “These new details only raise more questions about Mr. Crow’s tax practices, which could begin to explain why he’s been stonewalling the Finance Committee’s investigation for months.”

    Crow, through a spokesperson, declined to respond to ProPublica’s questions.
    <End Snip>

    Oh, what a surprise: the person who has for years been plying one of our Supreme Court Justices with extremely expensive "gifts," which smack of a "soft" form of bribery-- presumedly disposing Justice Thomas to give deference to Crow's known positions on various issues before the Court (IOW, influence-pedalling)-- gifts which the Justice has not reported, since 2004, and which did not cause Thomas to recuse himself from any cases in which his real or perceived favoritism (had the gifts been accurately reported, as they were supposed to have been) shown toward Crow's issues, has now been revealed, himself, to apparently have been guilty of cheating the government, with bogus tax write-offs, to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars. This revelation came out, by the way, through more, quality investigative journalism by the non profit news source, Pro Publica, which had also been the source for the other Thomas scandals: of taking the trips; and selling the property on which his mother still resides, which Crow renovated; and having the expensive, private education of the relative's child, who Thomas has been raising as his own.

    It is amazing that all of these stories had beforehand remained hidden from mainstream, for-profit news companies (as well as from PBS), and so hidden from the public, until the citizen contribution-funded Pro Publica, came along. I certainly appreciate their work, as an important contribution to our democracy and, as such, have done my small part, to provide a little support for their efforts. For anyone who might also realize that this sort of journalism is dependent upon the contributions of we beneficiaries of their digging out of the facts, I'm including a link to donate to their mission, of uncovering truth.

    Fitting with the new governing mantra of the right wing — win by any means necessary. If voters do not wake up we will move from a backsliding democracy to a prior democracy.

    I'd heard of the new designation-- something for us all to stay mindful about.

    Supreme Court doesn't set tax rates. IF you can cite a SCOTUS case and provide Thomas's opinion on the case, do so. Otherwise take this crap elsewhere like DailyKrap or ProPooplica. .

    Corruption is a cancer. Sadly, since there is no cure, it must be cut out.

    So true. I look forward to seeing your comment on another thread here on PF, the title of of which is, "
    IRS whistleblowers will testify on alleged Biden influence peddling next week."

    If there is corruption, it needs to be dealt with. The article makes a lot of statements of corruption but doesn't actually give any specific evidence. I'll keep my oppinions to myself until I see specifics.

    There is no "point" to the thread. Just another LWer blathering about some alleged malefeasance by SCOTUS justices - I ask for specifics; which justices, which cases and specific actions the justice committed. Doesn't seem difficult or complex. Instead.

    The title of the thread is "
    How Harlan Crow Slashed His Tax Bill, By Taking Clarence Thomas On Superyacht [/quote]

    Where's the beef?

    There needs to be a thorough review of Thomas' and Crow's finances.

    Did you actually read the OP? I am betting not since your “points” do not even align with the thread title. Try reading it again

    Are you able to communicate, what part of "you got the story wrong," flies over your head? It is not about "malfeasance by SCOTUS Justices." But you'll have to be able to handle more than two sentences, to find out more.

    But here, I will try to suggest how you should be reading the story, by enhancing the rest of your post:

    No, you've given quite enough examples for me to be quite sure what asinine means and how it pertained to your posts.
    I call the bullshit blather you were laying down wentnuclear. All I asked was to provide the assertion made in the title. And you still haven't done that.

    That's exactly HOW I'm reading it - and I'm asking YOU to prove it. Do you understand the word "malfeasance"? The title accuses Thomas of engaging it but doesn't provide any PROOF other than classic Propoopla blather.

    For the last time: You misunderstood the meaning of the title. I cannot give you proof of an idea, which was erroneously formed, in your own mind. But my post which you'd refused to read, explains it, thoroughly.

    Or you could read the article.

    Or you could do neither of those, and just complain, instead-- a perfect representation, of modern Republican governing philosophy-- thereby proving my first post to you, correct: that you only came here to crap on the thread, & have no real interest-- because you excuse whatever is done, by those you regard as on your team.

    Your choice. But I'm done trying to explain, no matter how many more times you put on the confused act, of being too feckless to figure it out for yourself, despite being surrounded by sources of information, to dispel your cloud of cluelessness. If you prefer their company, I hear that the MAGA natives are always willing to make room for one more, on Stupid Island.

    Read it again. It's an accusation that Thomas some how cut taxes for a boat ride. I just asked for proof. You guys suffered collective brain lock and blathered on and on. How did Harlan Crow get his taxes cut? What's the proof. simple question.

    LOL. High Failure Proficiency.
    Keep pretending you can't read-- that sentence does not "accuse Thomas" of anything, besides being taken on a yacht, by the person who the story is about.

    Since when did Thomas change his name to Harlan Crow? It is clear the subject of the sentence is Harlan Crow

    The title doesn't - the story does, "Oh, what a surprise: the person who has for years been plying one of our Supreme Court Justices with extremely expensive "gifts," which smack of a "soft" form of bribery-- presumedly disposing Justice Thomas to give deference to Crow's known positions on various issues before the Court (IOW, influence-pedalling)"

    That is a side issue, which has been extensively discussed previously on this board however the main point of THIS thread was Harlan Crow using his attempts to influence peddle/ persuade/buy off a Supreme Court judge as a tax dodge. I mean that does take chutzpah
