Besides our state and federal income and property taxes, lets not forget the corporate taxes that are the other half of revenue and passed on to us in the price of goods.

The child tax credit will be $2000 per kid with no limit, starting 2019.
The Earned Income Tax Credit is $5500 for many people.
Medicaid, food stamps, section 8 housing, am I missing more?

How much does this add up to, and what fraction of government expenitures is it?

    Thanks.

In comparison with DOD, etc., not enough.

Yet when Trump mentions pulling our troops out of SK, closing military bases, ending expensive maneuvers with other nations you guys throw a fit.

I've never seen anything like the left's constant bitching about DOD spending then balking every time cuts are proposed.

Entitlement spending is about 64% of our GDP, or basically the majority of our spending.

Defense is 16% to put it in perspective.

So you can do the math but basically cutting 5% of our entitlement spending would equal our total military spending.

Oh the left went bonkers every time Trump mentioned one of those.

They yelled how it would put us at risk.

Guess you weren't here when that was happening.

Yep, so my numbers were pretty accurate.

Any big cuts you want to make will have to come from entitlements.

Sure you could trim defense down a bit but it won't make that big of a difference. I'm also not opposed to that but unless we tackle entitlements we won't really make any forward progress big enough to matter.

The areas that I think need the most work is in procurement for the military in particular and the government overall. Many procurement programs are the way they are because of sweetheart deals with a congressperson.

Cut some DOD, trim down procurement, give everything else a 5% cut, and then no increase for five years unless there is a cut elsewhere. To target entitlements specifically will not happen.

... remove all foreign tax shelters and bring back all that capital ~ this will end the national debt and reduce the need for taxes

MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY are not entitlements they are self funding through direct payroll deductions.Retirees collecting Social Security continue to pay into Medicare out of each and every check they receive.

Does someone have a breakdown of entitlements not labelled Medicare and Social Security? Because the charts we have here are several items rolled together. I would love to end corporate subsidies for many industries, especially farm supports for non-family farmers and the sugar industry in particular.

Let's cut the entire budget 10% across the board. The departments can determine how to make it work. Why do we need a Department of Education when all 50 states already have departments of education? Let the states do their jobs. All legislation should reference where in the Constitution authorizes this government action. Read the 10th.

Providing for the general welfare is in our Constitution.

Providing for the general warfare is not.

We should not have a drug war.
